AP Bio - Cutoffs for 5?

Can someone tell me how badly you can do on MC and still get a 5? And other scenarios? Thanks!

whoaaaaaa!
you looking for the 5;
don't think about "how badly you can do . . ."
focus on what you know and shore up as much as you can on weaknesses instead of posting today ot tomorrow.
think about going for 150 pts - as many points as you can.
if i were to show you the cutoff for a 5 is 25% you might fall into a trap and aim for 25%. bad.
there are 150 pts up for grabs - get greedy!

The score range for biology and chem is usually 60% = 5. Like what the poster above said, aim for higher score.

Where's that one thread where it had the scoring guidelines for about every AP exam?

Nevermind. Found it.

AP Bio:

MC Raw Score= Number Right - (Number Wrong x 0.25)
There are 40 points possible in the Combined Essay Score
Composite Score= (MC Raw Score x 0.75) + (Combined Essay Score x 1.5)
Compare your composite score with the ranges below:
5: 82-126
4: 63-81
3: 47-62
2: 29-46
1: 0-28

I hope that that's right..

that doesn't look right because 100.75 + 401.5 = 75+60 = 135 and not 126

yeah i agree intellec, does sum1 wanna figure out the new range lol? it can't be off by that much i don't think

multiple choice out of 90 (raw score / possible raw score * 90)
4 essays out of 15 each = 60

93 is a 5...

This is what we were given in class...

On Cliffs...

Raw score from MC x 0.6 = 60 pts max
Each essay = 10 pts max. 4 essays = 40 pts max

61 - 100 = 5
47 - 60 = 4
39 - 46 = 3
30 - 38 = 2
0 - 29 = 1

So the curve is extremely good. If you somehow get 100% on the MC and just get 1 pt out of possible 40 pts on the essays, you will be at the cutoff for a 5.

thanks guys for this

awesome... i'm feeling confident.

i'm not... we didn't cover half the stuff.

I'm probably more screwed than all of you. I've got PhysicsB, my class covered about 1/2 to 3/4 of the topic, and I haven't read the book the whole year...

we didn't either, but the cliffnotes ap review really helps. besides, the test is designed so you don't have to know everything and still pass.

gblob. i'm self-studying physics... haven't started yet.
and my bio class hasn't covered half the topics yet.
:D

^good luck then!

haha you too :)
we need it :'(
