AP Bio exam: How is it scaled? How many points for a 5?

It seems to me that the grading scale is very hard for Bio, yet 20% get 5's.

The 5 cutoff is at 118/150, right?

So I'm estimated I got an 83/100 on the MC and a 10, 10, 7, 6.
So that's .9(83-.25*17)+1.5(10+10+7+6) = 120, a 5. Right?

I think it's a lot lower than 118 - my cliffs book says 94-150 for a 5

yah, I think the cutoff for a 5 is lower than 118; also where did you hear 20% get 5s--where are you getting your stats?

it is usually 90-97 range to get a 5. SO basically if you get a 60 percent on the exam, you are bound to get a 5.

collegeboard.com has all the numbers for the percentages of people who earn each score

Wow, a 5 is SO EASY.

I was getting nervous because I thought I got around 120~.

bump bump bump

Flippy, why do you multiple the essays by 1.5?

i heard its only out of 135 points now instead of 150..i don't think that makes sense though....

I heard a full 10 is really hard to get?

hey it seems like everyone though the ap bio exam thought it was easy but found themselves to get at least 5-10 (minimum) on the multiple choice wrong and many confused the a + B species as well so i think the curve will be nice maybe i hope so>>>>>>>>>

does anybody have the scale from Cliff Notes? It doesn't say multiple by 1.5...the essays that is.

MC = 60%
Essays = 40%

So if the MC is 90, then the essays must be 60.
90/150 = 60%.

I don't know about the new scale though. If it's 135, then then the MC has to be multiplied by like .86 while the essays are multiplied by 1.2 or something.

2002's released scoring guide is 91/150= 5

Ok...straight out of cliffsnotes, here's what it says:
MC:
# questions right=____
# wrong*1/4=____
Total=____

FR:
Add the score of 1-10 for each=____

for the final score:
MC score.75 + FR Score1.5 = Combined score

For the number score:
94-150 is a 5; 73-93:4; 54-72:3; 34-53:2; anything below is a 1

How many pages did you write on average for each FR question?

so how do u compute the new score with 100 questions??
HEEEEELP :D

hmmm ap-bio did yall think it was easier than expected or something.. b/c the realeased exam from college board was alot harder.

i saw today in the 5 Steps to a 5 AP book (the one with like 11 different tests) the new conversions: MC raw score multiplied by .907 plus essay composite multiplied by 1.5. i think the lowest 5 was around a 94...verification?

how about the highest raw score youve heard to get a 5?

i still beleive it was 150

i mean like out of 150, you need say 95 points to get a 5, but since this varies, what's the highest you guys have heard...like over a 100 or 97 or something?
