I have to decide between them soon. I'm going to be honest and say I'm looking for the easier one. I despise sciences in general. I'm not a science person, I'm a humanities person, but I do want to potentially knock out a science credit in college or at least place out. Which is easier and which would you recommend?

If you really don't care for which subject, ask around at your school. The level of difficulty of the class varies from school to school. The ease of learning the material depends on the person. In your situation, go with the class that is considered 'easier' at your school.

Chemistry is generally easier for mathematical personalities. You can go through the whole year without touching the textbook and still score a 5 on the AP. But on the biology exam, I heard you pretty much live off the book (one chapter a week).

I feel that chem is easier than bio. I think Bio ist mostly remorization and chem is mostly reasoning and math. Well that's what I think, and I would take AP Chem instead of AP Bio.

haha i think bio is waaaay easier than chem...so i guess it does depend

but, what do you want to major in?? id say its more practical to get credit for general bio in college rather than general chem..its easeir to skip a few bios and not be lost

If you're looking to get out of college classes, Chem might be your best bet, since at a number of schools a 5 on AP Chem will get you out of a full year of freshman chemistry in addition to chem lab. I don't think AP Bio will get you out of anything aside from one semester of bio.

I haven't taken either, but it seems that people who have taken chem say it's easier than bio, and people who have taken bio say it's easier than chem. That leads me to conclude that they're similar in difficulty...at least at my school. However, I have heard that reading the text is imperative in bio...or at least skimming it.

hahah well this thread will have a lot of different opinions

i took both and i think AP chem is easier. for me, it is easier to learn concepts based off of problem solving rather than straight reading material (primarily because i am lazy).

it really depends on whether you have a math mind that likes problem solving...or a mind that like reading and absorbing material

also- it is very important to ask people at your school who have taken the classes. a lot depends on the teacher

It really depends on your interest level in each, and which one you are necessarily "better" at. I despise chemistry ever since taking it sophomore year (a non-AP one but still an accelerated one) with a terrible teacher. So I enjoy biology more and find it easier. Others think differently. But biology does require at least basic chemistry.

what i was saying tho is it might be more beneficial to take the gen chem classes in college, because i think a solid background in chem is better for the ochem classes that come after

skipping gen bio in college, on the other hand, i think would be easier..becuase its easier to learn..bio is just vocab, whereas chem you need to kno your stuff, solid

at least this is how my brain works

The AP Bio exam is ridiculously easy, and the class itself isn't too bad. It really taught me how to study, but you'll be fine if you just dedicate a bit of time each night to making sure you understand the material.

Consider what classes you'll take the yr after Bio or Chem. I know I'm going to take Physics my senior year, so I decided to take Chem next (junior) year. I didn't want to take AP physics and chem the same yr, for sanity purposes.

are you lazy and/or good at math?... take chem

do you like to read/like to spend a lot of time reading?...take bio

i took both and think ap bio is easier...

"I feel that chem is easier than bio. I think Bio ist mostly remorization and chem is mostly reasoning and math. Well that's what I think, and I would take AP Chem instead of AP Bio."

agreed .

If your a math person take Chem.
If not I would take Bio.

But it really does depend on your school.
I'm taking Bio because this teacher is really easy (and also a very good teacher), but with Chem the teacher is hard, unhelpful and I suck at math.
So it was kind of a no brainer for me.

^ Not true! =[ I'm 97'ing multivari calc but got 79 first two marking periods in AP Chem.

Though it also has to do with my chem teacher sucking. Uberly.

Honestly, I say take the easier class. Colleges won't know the difference, and you've a crapload of stuff to be busy with senior year (assuming you're a junior, though if you're a sophomore, junior year kinda blows too). It just gets into an issue of time + effort spent vs. what you actually accomplish. I, for example, had 1-2 hours of homework every night in chem alone. That time and effort would have been a lot better spent on my college apps.

And never underestimate your unwillingness to do work as senioritis hits.

I feel like this has to do so much with teachers and the classes at your school;
at mine, AP Chem is about ten times harder.
Even the best students are only managing B's and C's.

hm im taking both this year as a junior... i personally like AP bio better.. got an A in it last semester and B in chem ... i had to really work for the A and chem.. is just something i felt i had to take. it depends.. do u wana have fun or get a good grade? chem made/makes me miserable. or you can always take one in junior year and one in senior year.

oh yeah ur right about the teacher. i have good teachers. if ur concerned u might get a bad grade i wouldnt risk it

and chem doesnt have that much math in it.. its mostly algebra.. and some algebra II like property of logs...

Chem is a lot of math but the thing is, the reasoning part of chem is way too hard. Its soo much work and soo annoying. Personally, id go with AP bio since its memorization. Chem is way too much thinking.

Well, on the other note chem actually makes some sense (for me, at least). My brain has like 1 byte of memory, and bio would make me explode.

Why don't you just ask what your chem/bio teacher recommend?
