AP Bio vs. Physics

(Was there a post already about this? I don't know...)

Without getting into stupid details, I basically have two choices next year for science: AP Bio or just a regular Physics class. Now, I really like bio, but I feel like I should take physics, just because, you know, it's physics. But it's regular and I'm already not taking AP Lit, so it would kind of look like I'm slacking, not taking the offered AP courses and all. But still, it's physics. So, any advice on what I should take?

AP Bio! AP Bio! AP Bio! I love my ap bio class, but maybe that's just me. But yeah, for your apps, i would recommend the AP anyway.

Physics beyond kinematics gets pretty weird and I never really understood or had a liking for it. I'm taking Ap Bio right now, and it's a lot easier than Ap physics. It feels sort of like a history class because you have to memorize and remember so many facts. Not number based at all like chem or physics.

I had to make the exact same decision, and actually had the same opinions of both subjects! I ended up taking both, but am trying to drop physics now because it seems so inane. In my physics class, we can't use calculus and it's just plugging into formula crap. I personally think it was a waste of time.

I've heard from various sources that colleges like to see the "holy trinity" of science. In other words they like to see that you have taken bio, chem and physics. You might want to check that out.

Yeah, burlmom, I heard the same thing in info sessions.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking...I know I should take physics, but I just like bio a lot...

does this mean you only have regular physics in your school...if so, that sucks. AP physics is really a nice class, so is honors actually. The only big problem i forsee is I dont know how useful regular physics would be as far as what students would be taking it. In my school, since honors is offered, all of the students strong in math take honors, so the regular program is very watered down. IF that is the case at yours, that it woudl be watered down, go bio. If a lot of other kids that do well in math are taking it, physics is a great course and somewhat functional. After kinematics it is not necessarily all that functional depending on what you plan to study, but its a great fundamental course.

its up to you i say. ap bio if you really like biology
but then physics is good to have on your application even if it is just regular to show that you took all the sciences.

for me i should of taken AP physics instead of bio.

I'm taking both AP Bio and AP Physics this year (actually, its a combined IB/AP class for both subjects, our school is strange), and I'd have to say that if it were between taking Advanced Bio and regular Physics, take advanced Bio. Regs Physics is basically just plugging in numbers into formulas...it's way too easy. In AP Bio you learn a lot more. However, if you could take AP Physics instead of Regs and AP Bio, you should do that, because in AP Physics you learn a lot about the concepts, plus you'd get all three sciences on your app.

Yeah, at my HS, phyiscs is like THEE hardest class....only 2 ppl passed the final out of 24 lol...ummm, Bio was required for sophomores, i took AP, it was easy, but i slacked off so i got a C :(
