Ap Bio

How much chemistry do I need to know for AP Bio? I plan on taking both AP bio and honors chem at the same time next year (junior year) so do I like need chemistry tutoring over the summer or do you think I can do both at the same time?

At least at my school, we didn't need to know much, just basic stuff. And even that was just helpful for those chapters, you could probably get by without it.

Honestly not too much. I took honors chem the year before AP Bio and I didn't learn a thing and still got B's in the class and a 4 on the exam without much effort for the year.

did you take any chemistry yet? becasue at my school chemstry 1 is a prerequisite for AP bio....if you havent taken any chemistry, you might want to go over some stuff this summer

At my school, you don't have to take chem to take ap bio. So I think you should be fine.

I took both honors Chem (my first chem class ever) and AP Bio at the same time last year. There was no problem in needing to know Chem for Bio. I would worry more about balancing the two classes, as while possible, it can be stressful at times.

Best of luck.

to me, I think chem was helpful. Why? When you are learning about say cellular respiration, photosynthesis, etc, it helps to know the chemical properties of different elements to know why things work. But if you are purely in Biology AP for another reason than truely understanding the material, then memorization will be your key to an A in biology (thus you don't need chemistry).

Having a background of chemistry made it easier for me to understand some of the concepts, but those concepts are pretty easy in the first place (polarization, for example), so even if you don't know much about chemistry, you won't have too much trouble.

You can understand cellular respiration and photosynthesis without taking Chem as AP Bio has a section, usually early, that explains the basics of chemistry.

I also took chemistry along with AP Bio.

You can randomly learn it along the way. There's no problem.
