***AP Biology 2015 Thread***

I’m also a newb to CC and I would like to ask if there is a probability that I got a five. Here are my estimated stats:

On the free response, I believe that I ranged between 33-35 points. (33 being an under-estimation and 35 being an average with some hope  )

On the 2013 practice test, I managed to get 12 incorrect OUT OF 69.
Based on a proportion, I would get about 10 wrong out of 58.

Would this allow me to get a five? What is usually the cut-off? What is the average weighted score of a student who received a 5?

I also have a question on frq 6. (This is where I got an extra 2ish points to get 35)

I put on a) that the snakes were reproductively isolated. Is this correct?

Honestly, I would just wait the week or so left to see what you really got instead of trying to figure out the probability. It’ll just stress you out to think about, and with it being so close, it’d be easier to just put it out of your mind until you get scores back.

@silverhawk5 I think the SAT II was a lot easier because it actually tests you on facts and understanding of biology. I was really upset because I thought the MC of the AP exam was not very content-based but more like the ACT Science that tested your quickness to read graphs and understand experiments. I felt I didn’t do well at all because of this. The SAT II Biology had some experiments but it was a lot more of simply recalling biological concepts/facts so people who know biology will succeed, not just good testtakers.

@cavern101 I would say you are definitely in a better position than me. Keep in mind the score for the mc is out of 69 (practice tests are 58). After all the practice tests I took, I consistently scored about 59/69 as well. For the frq, you’re fine! The cutoff for a 5 is about a 92/120 on average, and that’s about a 76% accuracy. I’m hoping we both made the cutoff; looking at a 32/41 for the frq and you need about 30:41 with that mc score. But I would take @elliebham 's advice and I will follow so also and try, as hard as it may be, to think of the ‘what ifs’ when the result is only a week away!

@vmiller7723

@vmiller7723 Thanks for the advice on the SATii; with a brush up on Barron’s I should take it in the spring as a great app booster and hopefully it will match my expectations. I too compare the AP MCQ to that of the ACT science on steroids.

Best of luck to everyone!

What if… gets a 1goes to his bedcries

Only 5 more days until scores are released guys! I’m very anxious and excited.

I’m very nervous about this test, because although I’m pretty sure I did well in the mc (55+/69), I ran out of time on the free response and couldn’t get to the last two questions. I completed everything else, but just spent too much time on the first lab with the mouse. Hoping for a 4!!

I am also very nervous… I’m hoping for at least a four. I can’t remember what I wrote so I can’t even predict a solid score.

Well…Off to AP Chemistry…

@cavern101 What do you think would be easier, AP Chem or AP Physics 1?

@jduffy9 its ok; if you got a 55/69 on the mc, that means that you have to score a 31/41 on frq to get a 5. I too left an entire FRQ blank (they just don’t give us enough time to think hard and write, do they?), and I’m unsure on a few of my answers as well. Assuming you got all of the rest of the frq right, you can definitely get a 4 if not a 5 because you’d get a 35/41 if you did not answer 7 or 8. Keep hope alive!

The waiting is killing me too. I’m hoping for a 5, but a 4 would be okay, and I know I did really well on the MC (57+/69) and hopefully a 32/41 on the FRQ as well. (left 4 blank, and I feel I probably missed 5b, and that leaves some room for little things i missed.)

Just to clarify, the cutoff for last years’ scores were as follows:

92/120=5
72/120=4
52/120=3

Seeing as the curve is meant to reflect the same level of achievement as the previous years’, we can assume that the cutoff for a 5, 4, and 3 this year will be similar.

@vmiller7723 at my school- AP Physics is way easier than AP Chem (which imo is the hardest ap class offered at my school). However I have almost no chem background so I’ll do AP Physics 1 this year and then maybe AP Chem.

I JUST GOT MY AP SCORES!!! I got a 5 on bio! I’m going to Georgia Tech so we get our scores on our portal, i self studied for a few days before the test. I hope you guys all do well!

@TodaysEinstein congrats!!! quick question; did your answers match those on the thread, and did you answer all of the frqs correctly? I really want a 5…

also what did you predict your mc and frq to be?

@silverhawk5 I did all 2 or 3 practice tests from someone who linked them earlier, and i averaged a 5 on the mc and about a 5 same with the frqs. Minus 6 mc average and minus like 10 points for safety on frq

In terms of the actual test i’m fairly certain i got a large number of the mc right, i know for sure i got one math question wrong (I wrote 50% instead of 0.50 for the percentage). The FRQ was all over the place, I’m pretty sure i was vague on the last question and so it definitely lowered my frq points. I think also that i lost points on the auxin question because of being vague. I didn’t know much of what was on the test so i relied on bsing the whole thing.

You guys actually took the class, so chances are that you guys did just as well or better than me! Keep your head up even if you don’t get a 5, you guys are absolute geniuses! Don’t let anyone else tell you different.

@TodaysEinstein when are our colleges supposed to receive our scores? If you took more than one ap exam, did gtech receive all of the scores?

@TodaysEinstein awww thanks for your support! Do you think even if I left the mitosis/meiosis frq blank i could pull a 5? I averaged a -9 on my practice tests (CB, Barrons, and 5 Steps) and I answered everything else to the best of my ability? What other AP Classes did you take?

@tlf123098 I think they received them sometime in the past few days. The ga tech people are entering in the scores alphabetically. All my scores were sent and they were placed under a test scores section in my application.

@TodaysEinstein huh, I’m going to nyu and can’t find mine anywhere  maybe I’ll call tomorrow
