AP Biology and Honors Chemistry Concurrently in Sophomore Year?

Though I’m being advised against it by my family/peers, I want to take AP Bio and Honors Chem concurrently next year. I’m a rising sophomore and have been taking all honors courses and AP Human Geography. I’m having no trouble holding a 4.0 GPA. How hard is AP Bio, and how much effort would I have to exert towards the class? Are concepts I will learn in Honors Chem necessary to fuel my success in AP Bio?

All advice is appreciated–thanks.

Have you taken a previous Chemistry Course? My school doesnt allow you to take AP Bio if you haven’t taken a chemistry course before so I’m guessing it might be something that fuels your success in AP Bio.

I haven’t taken a chemistry course before unless middle school physical science counts :slight_smile:

I did this. It was hard but everything worked out. You don’t need a chemistry background for AP bio.

I’m doing this right now (and also taking AICE Biology along with AP as a blocked class). I don’t think it is too difficult; however, I thoroughly enjoy both subjects to begin with and both teachers I have are really great, especially my bio teacher. You should ask other students in your school about the chemistry and bio courses there, because not every teacher teaches the same way and the courses there may be difficult.

Taking chemistry beforehand will help in some areas, but it is definitely not necessary.

I have heard that the AP Bio teacher is fantastic.

AP Human Geography is designed to introduce freshmen (and sophomores) to the AP methodology. It’s not comparable to AP bio, which is designed to be a junior-senior level class that follows Honors Bio and Honors Chem. While taking both isn’t a strict pre-requisite, do you at least have Honors Bio?

Do it… a fantastic AP bio teacher will make all the difference. Be prepared for little sleep and frustrated rants about the inner working of genetic makeup and DNA tho. c;
Whatever you decide, good luck.

I did it. I passed biology exam with a 3 and got "A"s in both classes. It’s doable if you put through the effort and study hard.

I’m taking Honors Chem with Honors Bio right now. It goes together well. I’ve never taken AP Bio, but I’ve heard that there’s a fair amount of chemistry in it. Honestly, honors chem is VERY easy, so you should have no problem with it :slight_smile:
