I pretty much know everything I want to take next year (10th grade), with the exception of science. Now I know I want to do an AP class for science since I like my weighted GPA and my class rank to be good (I'm just very competitive like that), so these are my two choices. To give you an idea of my course load next year, here is the classes I want to do next year:
PE 2
Spanish 2
Accelerated Pre-Calculus(first semester)/AP Calculus AB(second semester)
AP World History
AP English Language and Composition
AP Biology???AP Chemistry???

Here I'm gonna tell you the pros and cons for me of each:

AP Biology
Pros:
I like biology
Funner?
More sophomores in this class
Most importantly, I'll be able to do HL Biology later in high school!
Cons:
Counselor recommends against it
Sophomores who took chemistry in 9th usually don't do very good in this class
Not many labs

AP Chemistry
Pros:
Might be easier since I have done a Chemistry class in 9th
Counselor recommends this
Cons:
I don't really like Chemistry that much
Most importantly, I won't be able to do HL Biology!

Do AP Bio!! If you genuinely like bio a lot more, you will be willing to put in more time and effort into the class, which will give you better grades in turn. You want to enjoy your schedule, not feel bad about it.

@PurpleStarfall Yes, that is true. I would really prefer AP Bio. The thing is, I don’t want my grade to be affected. The counselor said only a few students in each class get an A, and none of those are the students who took Chemistry the year before.

@BHSJunior Do you think I would be able to succeed in AP Bio if I haven’t taken a high school biology class before? I think I am pretty good at memorization and I like Biology.

Colleges will want to see a biology course before you graduate, so if you don’t take regular Bio then you should definitely try to take AP. I think you can manage AP bio without taking regular (i did that w/ physics). I think you should take bio because it seems like that’s what you really want to do. I haven’t taken AP chem yet, though.
