AP Biology- phylogeny

Hi guys! I'm a junior who's gonna be taking this test in May!

So we have the Reece and Campbell book, and I think we're super behind. Over spring break we were supposed to skim chapters 26-32. This includes specifics of phylogeny and taxonomy, as well as chapters on protists and fungi, etc.

So for the chapters before, I have a very good understanding of the topics (like chapters 1-25). I'm just wondering how much of the test is going to cover the phylogeny material, because I have a real general understanding of it from skimming the chapters, but I don't understand it THAT well to classify very deeply.

I own the 2013 PR Review book, and I can't find anywhere in there where it mentions phylogeny and taxonomy. So does that mean it's not important on the test? Or should I make sure and study it? I know it's a new version this year, but time's running out and we haven't gotten to the animal form and function stuff yet so I need to know the importance of this material.

Thanks so much!!

I’m pretty sure taxonomy isn’t included in the new AP exam, but if you want to make sure, then you could go to College Board and skim through the course exam description.

I advise you not to use the new PR Book, it is poorly written and does not reflect what you will be seeing on the actual AP Biology Exam, instead you should opt for Barrons or Kaplan!

Ok thanks! I think I will probably just familiarize myself with what’s included about Phylogeny in my review book. @Linjas123 I completely agree with you. I looked at the Cliffs version and liked it much better, so I actually am now using that one instead of PR. In comparison to Cliffs, the PR seemed very choppy and uninformative.

The PR book is extremely bad, yes. My teacher ordered PR, Kaplan, and Barrons (waiting on Cliffs). A few students and I looked through them with him … PR was pretty terrible. It felt like it was still written for the old exam and they just wanted to be the first to release it.

Oh I know! I just got my cliffs book, and its amazing! I would say to definitely use that one, or barrons. So how are you guys studying? Just reviewing the book? I’m taking notes on it- also am planning to make flashcards. Anyone have any study tips?
