My senior year courseload is gonna be fairly tough, so I want to be fairly well-versed in several classes in order to save time for college applications. Does anyone who's taken AP Biology (and excelled at it) think that I should do some pre-studying in the next few weeks to make the actual class easier? Or should I be fine just following the course syllabus/reading along? I want to devote more time to EC's and math and physics than to biology!

I took it junior year, this past year.

You can read along, but it depends on the teacher and whether or not you want to even study biology.
I didn't really study for it until the day before. I got a 3.

You should do your AP Bio work and study enough to get a 3. You can do most of your studying after college apps. I was originally planning to take it Senior year, but a class I was planning to take was canceled(AP art Hist).

got a 5. class was a joke. studied a good week before the exam.

all i can say really..

I really think it depends more on your class.

Let's say your school has a good biology program. The teacher goes by a rigid schedule, you have lots of homework and reading every week, and you'll finish the entire Campbell book by April (I'm assuming you guys are using that). Then there is absolutely no need to study beforehand because you'll have to do the work anyways during the schoolyear.

If the class is a joke, and the teacher is known for not covering a lot of the material, then it's up to your choice. If you want the A, you don't need to do much before hand. If you want a 5, you should start reading up.

haha no. as long as you actually read your textbook you'll be fine.

our class was literally based on an outline of cliffs. we never even brought campbell to class. my teacher was HORRIBLE. however, i went into studying cliffs and the labs on my own (key here is labs) and i got a 5 and knew i did walking out

I took AP Bio junior year.. A few days before school started, I looked at some practice AP Bio questions (in addition to questions from my other AP classes), and I got incredibly nervous. I didn't see how I could possibly learn so much in such hard classes and yet do well.

Well- I didn't do any studying before school started.. but I got 100 in the class, and a 5 on the exam. It progresses- starting with a lot of concepts you should already know. The first few chapters I found simple because I acquired a lot of the information in my former bio, as well as my former chem class. The class gradually became harder, but a lot of the information built on top of each other.

In summary- I would not say you have to start studying yet. Just do not let yourself fall behind in the class.

And read Cliffs shortly before the exam

I wouldn't bother studying yet, see how the class is paced first. My teacher was extremely slow and we just made it past the halfway mark in the book when it was time for the exam, but I had started reading ahead in the very beginning of march and pulled off a 5.it's just a bunch of memorization mostly

we didnt cover literally half the book and i still pulled off a 4, didnt study at all but knew some stuff from taking enviro AP. you shouldnt need to study already, just make sure you have covered everything somewhat by the time the exam comes around, either in your own time or in class

Doing some pre-reading never hurts...but as most have already aid, it really depends on the class. I had an excellent teacher who pshed us and quizzed us everyday. I read my biology campbell book cover to cover b/c of her teaching style and I believe it was worth it because I got a 5...but there were also only 7 people in my class.....

I took it this past year. It sucked. The teacher got fired after the first semester because we had only made it through the first 15 or so chapters out of the 55 chapter Campbell textbook, and it was poorly taught. I went into the exam not having been taught a solid 10 chapters in the book and came out with a 5 through self-teaching. So for me, bio would be easy enough with a good teacher but mainly self-motivated.

AP bio was the best class i ever took in high school. got a 5 on the exam (so effing easy).

you do not need to pre-study at all. just come in with an open mind and a willingness to learn. i did just that and i still remember every detail from the first day of class. everything is so interesting...OMG if i could take that class again, i would do so in a heart beat. i loved it so much that i went back to aid for my AP bio teacher this past year :)
