Can I survive AP Biology without having taken Regular or Honors Biology? My reason for asking this is because at my school, you can go into AP Biology for sophomore year if you have taken Honors Chemistry during freshman year. I finished Honors Chem, but I'm going into a college leveled Biology class without any background information about high school leveled Biology.

So once again, can I survive AP Biology with my circumstances?

I don’t really think so. I just finished up honors biology and while it prepared me for AP, I still chose not to take it because I feel like biology is one of those things where you either get it, or you don’t. Most of it flew over my head. And to put it into perspective, the summer work for AP this year was a lesson-by-lesson review of the WHOLE honors biology curriculum.

I would say definitely talk to the teacher ASAP. I presume the school is allowing you to take the class without the bio prerequisite, so I would figure someone’s been in your situation before. Ask the teacher how you can best prepare yourself for the class, what things you can study or focus on, etc…do your best to follow the curriculum early on and DEFINITELY don’t be afraid to ask for help.

I took AP Chemistry without taking Honors chemistry…not sure if I regret it or not. I got a 3 on the exam, so I’ll probably retake it in college (chemistry’s not my best subject).

I took AP Biology as a sophomore without ever taking a biology or chemistry class prior. It is definitely possible, because it’s really just memorization. I got a 5 on the exam

Honors Biology is a JOKE. I seriously slept through the whole class and still made an A. Really all you need to learn before you take AP Bio is the details of cellular respiration.

Some schools teach differently, however. Some AP Bio teachers will teach with the expectation that you have already taken regular bio, and will quickly breeze through or even skip many of the concepts learned in bio.

I took AP bio this past year, and my recommendation of you decide to take it is to check out bozemanbiology on youtube! He is simply the BEST TEACHER ever! We used his videos in our class and it helped A LOT! And just enjoy biology, there are many things to learn about our surroundings Good Luck!
