I, unfortunately, due to mental health problems, earned a C in sophomore year in Honors Biology. I got such a mediocre grade through a lack of studying and missing assignments. I am currently in my senior year and have the option to choose AP Biology, and this time, I believe I could pass it with an A. However, in my school, taking AP Biology requires students to purchase a $250 laboratory kit, and I don’t want to put any more financial pressure on my parents. If I took AP Biology senior year and receive an A, would college admissions officers overlook the C from sophomore year? The only other science option I have is AP Environmental Science, but that might not exactly help with overlooking the C, and it is known to be one of the easier AP courses.
No. But it will help mitigate any damage done by the C. Keep in mind that colleges will not see your final grade when admissions decisions are made.
- Ask your parents if they could afford it
- Is there a "scholarship" for those who can't afford it?
- If you do well in AP Bio and do well on the AP test, you could get college credit for it. That would be worth mor ethan $250.
