AP Biology

Hi, I'm a sophomore in high school, and I have already taken physics, and I am currently taking Chemistry. I was wondering if it would be better to take the regular biology course, then take AP Bio, or just take AP Bio. Many Thanks!

you dont need regular.

but if you were to take regular bio, AP would be a breeze because you already know all of the concepts, but in less detail.

^^Hmm...I don't know that it would be a breeze.

I would suggest just taking AP bio for your junior year. That is what most kids at my school do, anyway. You can for sure be successful in AP bio without a regular biology background. Last year's AP bio class at my school got 9 5's, all the rest 4's, and one 3. :)

It just depends how rigorous the AP bio class at your school is. My APBio class is one of the toughest classes in our school and everyone who take the course get at least 750 on the SAT subject exam and 4s and 5s on the AP exam.

In any case, AP bio is just pure memorization. If you are good at that, take the course. You don't need prerequiste. Actually kids taking any AP science class at my school don't take prerequiste classes.

There was a senior in my class last year who had never taken regular biology, and as far as I know she did above par on most of the classwork (albeit the senior class last year was horrid, and par was not very high, at no real fault of the teacher). I took AP biology as a junior without having taken biology since 8th grade, and I got a 5. It's mostly being able to memorize vocabulary and being able to visualize very complex concepts.

My school requires you to have regular bio before taking AP. I took regular as a freshman and I'm a senior now in AP. I don't remember one thing from regular, and I'm getting an A, so I don't think it's necessary.

I took it as a junior, and I thought it was the most difficult AP that I've taken (before AP Chem, anyway). We had to take General Chem before AP Bio. I'd take AP Bio, the AP test isn't really that difficult, and with enough studying I scraped a 5, and science is one of my most difficult subjects.

IS there an Honors Bio course at your school? I would highly suggest taking that.

My school is a private school, so there are no honors courses. Just regular or AP.

I feel like, if you know chem pretty well, and you are sufficiently smart/hard working, it's fine to go straight to AP Bio. That's what I did, and I've been doing fine.

I took reguler bio in 8th, now im taking earth science. As a sophmore would it look better to Cornell or for college admissions in general to take chem, ap bio, or gemmini geology? Please post / aim me with your thoughts, chriscraftt1

Thanks

^ for the post above, take AP Bio. Don't if you'll do bad.

For the OP, just take AP straight on.
