AP Calc AB FLVS

Hello everyone, just a couple of questions about AP Calc AB on FLVS. One, does it require oral assessments, can you redo assignments, and I'd like your personal opinion on the class. Thanks a lot!

If you don’t mind me adding Pinkfloyd789, what does everybody think about AP Calc BC on FLVS as well?

I’m a sophomore in Pre-Calc I have a high C thinking about taking this AP AB Calc class online, any opinions?

Take it! I took the course last year through FLVS and got a 5 on the test. You can redo assignments and the oral assessment is just talking to your teacher over the phone for a few minutes before each test. I enjoyed taking the class online since I was able to go at my own pace.

Can you go more into depth on it?
What chapters does it cover, how many, how many assignments, difficulty etc
Are there annoying “projects” i ask because i took geometry and there were loads of projects

I didn’t find the course to be difficult in general but it depends on how well you are able to learn it. The actual assignments were pretty easy. The way it works is that you do the assigned number of odd questions as practice (since the answers to the odds are found in the book) and evens to turn in. This wasn’t too difficult since you could figure out how to work out the evens by looking at how the odds were solved. The questions came from [Calculus 8th Edition eSolutions](<a href=“Calculus 8th Edition eSolutions”>Calculus 8th Edition eSolutions)

There are 15 chapters in the book, but if I remember correctly, we only went up to about 8, which is all you need for the AB exam. There was also a last unit in the course that just went over how the actual exam worked, test taking tips, and other things like that. For each section of each chapter, we had some questions to answer. You can see how many sections there are in each chapter in the above link. The tests aren’t too bad, but you have to do an oral review before each one (which I didn’t really care for)

There weren’t any real projects, the closest thing to a project I could think of was collecting actual data from when you are driving to use for an area exercise.

Ah i see, i actually have access to the 9th edition of that same textbook(probably 8th as well but haven’t looked) do you recall what the 8 chapters were?

As listed in the table of contents:

P. Preparation for Calculus

 1. Limits and Their Properties
 2. Differentiation
 3. Applications of Differentiation
 4. Integration
 5. Logarithmic, Exponential, and Other Transcendental Functions
 6. Differential Equations

@19soccer‌, do you think it would be possible to finish it over the summer?
