AP Calc AB or BC?

I've never been a mathematically inclined person. I took regular geometry, took Algebra II instead of Algerbra II/Trig. Now I'm in Functions Trig, not Functions Analyt. I've never gotten anything but an A in math. I try, but not that hard, it's mostly been easy for me. I'm in Physics now, and find it a HUGE challenge, but I'm doing good. I don't know whether I should take AB or BC, because I want the challenge and stuff. Would I be screwing myself over if I took BC? I really still would like an A. Should I just stick with AB? HELP!!

AP calculus is not going to be a class where you can just try not very hard and still get an A. So if you’re not a mathematically inclined person, and you’ve been taking easier math courses in the past, just do AB.

That isn’t necessarily true.

Anyway, it depends on your school. At some, BC is basically accelerated AB + the BC topics. At others, it jumps straight into BC stuff and has AB as a prereq.

Quoted for emphasis.

You don’t really have to know calculus to pass AP Calculus. It’s more of a test of your basic algebra than Calculus.

In any case, note that BC is just AB + like, two/three more chapters. It’s nothing crazy. Series themselves are pretty straightforward. I seriously doubt you’ll get anything requiring special tricks.

If you are not planning on using calculus in your life again, then you might as well take AB.

Look at it this way, if you fail the BC Exam, you might still earn credit for the subscore in AB.

Worth a shot.

If you’re planning to go into math, science, medicine, etc, I’d take BC.

If you’re planning to go into English, history, etc, I’d take AB.

Calc AB is disturbingly boring, take my word for it. They cover pre-calc topics for nearly a month!

Calc BC is engaging, fun, and just plain out intriguing. You’re always given a new topic, it’s captivating material, and you finally start to realize some practicality for mathematics in everyday life.

Take BC, no matter what you plan to major in, you definitely will not regret it.

Well, at this point I’m still really confused.

I suck at math. I mean in regular classes I pull 99’s but that’s like an 80 converted to advanced classes.

I find AP Statistics hard!

I would definitely take the BC class. It is not too much more information, and if you can just put in the time to study you can get a 5. You should take some practice tests, as if you aren’t great in physics there is a possibility that some of the stuff in Calc won’t immediately click, and you won’t want anything extra distracting you from doing well.

So decide by taking a practice test.

I was in your position last year. I’m an English person, and disliked math strongly. But I received A’s with a reasonable amount of diligence. I’m taking BC this year, as a junior, and love it. It’s a very fun and cool class. It shifts away from rote memorization and you learn how to calculate interesting stuff. I definitely recommend taking BC. You’ll be fine, imo.

Ramblinman, I’m really bad at physics. I usually get 60’s on tests and manage to keep an 85 in the class by working my butt off. I mean the stuff clicks, and I comprehend, but I find the teacher’s test simply impossible, as does 95% of my class.

Also, I’ve only taken functions trig not functions analyt, would you STILL advise me to take BC?

I want to be confident in the mathematical world and really challenge myself but I’m not ready to forsake my GPA for such an endeavour.
