AP Calc AB vs. BC

I have Princeton Review's book which unfortunately doesn't say which is which.

So...

Slope fields ARE on AB now, correct?

Also, for AB, do we need to know...

shell method? My teacher says it's off, but the book still has it on.

seperable equations?

and I'll probably come back with more.

Slope fields are on AB.
Shell method for finding volume is on.
Separable equations? What do you mean? Separating differential equations? Parametric ones?

Actually, as of a few years ago they dropped it from both AB and BC.

If you mean seperating variables to solve differential equations, then yes that is on both.

Are you positive shell method isn't on the AP anymore? That's news to me, and a relief too.

Correct, shell method is not on the exam.

Note however that while shell method is not required on either AB or BC, it may be worthwile (i.e. a lot easier than disk method at some scenarios) to learn.

yea sometimes shell is easier to use on some free response questions....btw will they give me full credit if i were to answer a question using shell method cuz wenever i take a practice exam and look at the scoring guide i never see them grade you if you used shell....

yes, you will receive full credit for shells. they will not penalize correct mathematics.

OK, it's a little late to be asking this now probably but when is the correct time to use disk method and when to use shell method? Or can they be used interchangeably? I thought I had that concept down but after taking a practice test I am confused.

Disk and shell method can be used interchangeably, but each uses a different axis of integration. It just depends on whether the function or its inverse is easier to integrate.

OMG?! Are you serious? I had such a hard time with shell method 2 years ago. =(.

Kyt...owned!

you can use shells but the questions are usually set up so that shells is nearly impossible(but doable) while disks or washers can be easily done.
