Im a sophomore in high school right now and am planning to take the AP calc exam next year, doing outside study. Here's my concern: are colleges going to appreciate a good AP calc grade even if I did not take the class AP calc that my school offers? I am wondering if they will think I simply read the AP prep book and don't know calc very well, which is not the case at all since im taking a class outside of school. Thanks for reading and I hope you can respond.

Colleges seem to care about class rank and gpa. Considering you are taking this outside of your school you would somehow have to send a separate transcript for this class to the college UNLESS it is factored into your GPA at school. They don’t really care if you took the AP exam or not. If you did, they might allow you to get credit for a calculus course. If not, they can’t really give you credit for the course and you may have to retake it in college depending on your course requirements and major.
