AP Calc BC exam after Calculus I @ community college?

Does anyone know if a Calc I class at a CC covers enough material to get a 4/5 on the AP Calc BC exam?

I would think Calc 1 is Calc AB and calc 2 is Calc BC.

I agree with @bopper. I’d expect a Calc 1 class to match the Calculus AB exam. But you should be able to figure it out for yourself – look at the topics covered both the AB and BC exam and see if it matches up to your Calc 1 syllabus. You can also do some practice exams for both tests and see where you stand.

Wouldn’t you be able to get college credit for the CC class? Do you need to take the AP exam?

I actually did this exact thing but in high school. I couldn’t bit BC in my schedule, so I took AB calc and did maybe two or three afternoon sessions with the calc teacher to go over BC-specific concepts.

You’ll need to self-study a few things depending on your Calc I curriculum, but for the most part you can definitely get a 5 in BC even if you only took calc AB. You should compare the syllabus to the BC topics and maybe go to office hours to get an overview of anything that’s on the exam, but not covered in Calc I.

No. Most people cannot definitely get a 5 on the Calculus BC exam after taking Calculus AB and spending a few extra afternoons studying.

Most people don’t even get a 5 on the AB exam after taking Calculus AB.
