Son got a 3 on the AP Calc AB test this spring. He’s thinking about applying to SDSU this fall as a business major. From what I can tell, AP Calc BC wouldn’t do anything more for him than AP Calc AB, but am I wrong? Trying to finalize his 2018-2019 schedule. TIA.
For the Business majors, Math 120 (Business Calculus) is needed while AP Calculus fulfills Math 150. You could call to confirm, but it looks like AP Calculus will not fulfill the Business Math requirement.
When I look under the business college requirements for lower division, it says that either Math 120 or Math 150 is required. So if the AP Calc AB test credit satisfies Math 150, this requirement would be fulfilled, right? (I might be totally reading this wrong!)

- You must complete The following 9 prep courses (8 for Accounting majors) with a C or better in each (no C- and no CR/NC grades allowed)
ACCTG 201: Financial Accounting
ACCTG 202: Managerial Accounting
ECON 101: Principles of Economics (Macro)
ECON 102: Principles of Economics (Micro)
FIN 240: Legal Environment of Business
MIS 180: Principles of Information Systems
RWS 290: Business Communications (formerly BA 290; not required for Accounting majors)
MATH 120 or MATH 150: Calculus for Business Analysis
STAT 119 or ECON 201: Elementary Statistics for Business or Statistical Methods
I was looking at the SDSU MyMap for the Business Majors and it did not specify that Math 120 or Math 150 were interchangeable but since the Business website states you can take either, than it makes more sense. So yes, based on this information AP Calc AB would fulfill the Math 150 requirement for the major.
If your son however is applying to some UC’s, then taking AP Calc BC would be worth taking his Senior year.
Thank you, these websites and requirements can get confusing sometimes.
Hi! I’m a current SDSU business student. I would just like to confirm what gumbymom has said. A 3 on the AB test fulfills 120, which is what one needs for the business major.
I remember I had this same question when I was signing up for my first classes at SDSU. I took BC instead of AB in high school. But all in all, if your son doesn’t take BC, he’ll be ok!
