I'm scheduling classes for next year, and am deciding between the two classes. I'm currently taking AB right now. Would BC Calc be seen as more rigorous than Statistics? And if I plan to major in science, which course would be a better class for me to take? Appreciate any input/advice. Thanks!

No question: take calc BC, it is more rigorous, and you may be able to get college credit. As a science major, AP stats is not useful, and you will need to take a real (calc-based) stats course in college anyway.

Definitely BC. It is seen as more rigorous a good portion of the AB material is covered on the BC exam, so it won’t be too difficult for you, assuming you are doing fairly well in AB.

BC is far more rigorous; Stats is kind of a joke. BC is probably much more useful for a science major, and plus much of the BC material is covered in AB.

ty all for the responses!~

Definitely Calculus BC; if a science major (or even business or economics major) requires statistics, it will likely require a calculus-based course, which AP Statistics is not. Second semester freshman calculus is also a prerequisite to more things a science major may take (particularly physics).

Though it seems odd that your school had you take what is normally a one year calculus course over two years (one year for AB and one year for BC) even though you are at least two grade levels ahead in math (i.e. you are good at math).

A former math teacher of mine told me it’s generally not a good idea to take a “year off” from rigorous math (aka Calc) before college, especially if you are planning to major in science/math once you get there. Passing along his advice (:

^ agreed. Definitely take Calc BC.
