Hi! I am a high school junior currently making my schedule for my senior year. I took AP Calc AB this year, and by default would take BC next year. However, I had to take AB online and BC would be the same. I really don't like this format--math is usually very easy for me (in-house AP Stats felt really easy), but the online format has made it a struggle. I would be able to handle it, but if there is not a significant advantage to taking BC, I don't really want to deal with it. However, it would be kind of weird to have no math course at all next year. I won't be slacking though: I'm looking at taking an online Latin class for college credit instead.
I am planning on being a veterinarian, entering vet school after getting a 4-year degree in biology.

So, what benefit would I get by taking BC? Would I usually need this much calculus for a biology major (I don't know what school I am attending yet)? Will it look bad if I don't have a math class senior year? What do you think?

Thanks for your help!

learn the material without taking the class

I don’t understand how people can take AB and BC separately
like, BC is just AB+Series/Sequences, Polar, Vectors, Improper Integrals

like you could learn all of those in a dedicated week and a half.

At my school students have to take Calculus AB/BC. Which means, they have to take both. This choice enables the students to either take the AB or the BC exam. By the bye, I want to become a Veterinarian too Anyway, or students can just take Calculus IA and Calculus IB. These classes prepare the student for the AB exam. I’m doing a Veterinarian internship now, and I ask the Veterinarian online about the math she did and all that junk, and she that it’s better taking care of the math in high school. Knowing this, I would say just take Calculus BC. Also high school is a much smaller environment than college, so you can receive more help and stuff like that one on one with the teacher.

How about taking AP Statistics?

Sorry, I guess I wasn’t clear: I did already take AP Stats last year; that’s how I knew it was easy for me. By the end of this year, I will have taken 4 years of regular high school math and two years of AP math (stats and calc AB).

@FantasyVesperia, since this class is online, I really get almost no teacher help. I think I would get more in college!

I know what I would prefer to learn: Latin. The only thing really stopping me is worrying that it might look bad to have taken so much math throughout high school and then suddenly have none senior year, especially since I took the first year of what is a two-year sequence at my school and didn’t move on to the next year.

My school makes me do ab/bc as well, which I find extremely frustrating.
Is it possible you (op) could skip bc? This thread has made me consider that. You could take a course at a nearby community college.

I think schools have some leeway in how they teach the courses. My son had no problem taking AB (got a 5), but is having some trouble with BC. He’s not going into science or math though and did not need to take it. I agree you may want to try to take at a CC? But, it may not be so bad not to take math senior year especially if your school does not offer BC.
