Can someone who got a C in Pre-Calculus take AP Calculus BC? They dont expect to make an A, they plan to maintain atleast a C in BC. The reason is that this person took 5 AP classes as a junior being his firs time ever even taking AP, on top of being in band having to practice music, and then dealing with Pre-calculus. So that had something to do with the C. So is this advisable?

If I had a C, I would take AB instead, but that's just me.

who is this 'they' that u speak of? Is that an Indian name?

I DO NOT reccomend that. I had an 87% last year in Pre-Calc Honors, took Calc AB and have an 86 this year. I'm a senior, I don't want to work my ass off. Plus that class (BC) is HARD.

I'm not stupid, AB is almost no new material, except the roatations, its pretty much built right off of Pre-Calc. I havn't once done homework. It is senior year.

I have a friend who had almost my same grade in Pre-Calc, is currently getting an Incomplete instead of a grade in BC because he is so far behind. He does all the work, goes in after-hours, retakes and redoes everything. His problem is he doesn't know the Pre-Calc stuff well enough to do the BC stuff.

Take Calc AB and AP Sats together (stats is pretty easy, tedious but easy) if you're worried about it "not looking good enough"

Yup, DONT take BC, your teacher should not, on good concience, reccomend you for that class, overburdened or no, you simply do not know the information well enough.

i agree...if you got a C in pre-calc, you are prbly not that strong in it, and you dont want to struggle more than you have to...AB is going to be hard enough...taking BC is prbly not a good idea

what if I did a big precalc summer assignment for reviewing precalculus and i worked on it all summer, should I do BC then?

you OBVIOUSLY want to take BC...so then take it....

yeah,if you really think you can do it, go for it

Do self study. You can go a lot faster and you can cover both AB and BC in a year.

is it advisable to take AB onlien and take BC at school at the same time?

Hmm...try learning some AB first. Otherwise you'll be lost in BC. Besides, if you do take BC, there's really no point in learning AB.

would I have a better chance of being accepted at stanford or rice with bc over ab or it doesnt matter. the school i go to doesnt offer bc

if it doesn't offer it, they cannot possibly hold it against you, now can they. just make sure you aren't taking 6 underwater classes and calc ab. that they will hold against you

whatwould you say is a good group of AP classes to take to get into a top tier school and what scores to get

stanford doesn't accept bc credit.

It depends on the teacher etc. At our school its an advanced track from freshman to senior year. They do precal and calc ab as juniors and bc 1st semester and review for the rest of the year. It is hard however!

I can speak from experience from both being in Calc BC and having friends in both AB and BC. The teacher always makes the class and if you feel that you will do better with the ab teacher than maybe you should opt to take that class.

Also, a curriculum note: The BC curriculum covers exactly the same topics as AB except for a few areas such as sequences and series so there isn't much a difference between the two classes.

i agree with sillyville. depends a lot on teachers. at my school however BC is a lot harder than AB. or.. well it was for me. basically the pace was a lot faster so that's what made it hard. if you really want it.. gopherit.

It depends, if you think you can handle calc bc then take it. Though if you think you can't, don't, because calc bc will probably be even harder then precalc. And the material you'll need to learn in the class is going to be the same no matter what teacher you get anyway, so maybe look over that and see if you grasp it before making the decision.
