hi, im a senior in high school and im facing a dilemna whether to take AP calc ab or bc,
i was a straight A pre-calc student and im wondering if i can make the jump

its the same teacher that teaches both, and currently i was set for AB, but i spoke with her and my old pre-cal teacher and they said that i can switch to BC if i want, because the AB class has like 32 kids and the BC class is small like 13. so more 1-1

so i need to make a decision whether to stay with AB or jump to BC,

the cal teacher said that for BC, she has to review and go over everything because since were first graduating class, its the first year for this higher level math. plus, on the test i heard there subdivided so even if i fail the BC part i can still get AB credit.

btw, the rest of my schedule looks like this
1.accounting (easy)
2.economics/government AP
3.interior design 3 (easy)
4.music theory (easy)
5.stat AP
6.calc AP
7.forensic science (easy)
8.english AP

any advice or has anyone ever been in this situation? thanks

At my school, with an A in pre-calc, the teachers push you more toward BC. Do you have any doubts about your math skills? It sounds like you would be good for BC, but, of course, it's different for everyone.

^thanks for the quick reply, i am very good with math and understand it well. its just the thought of jumping into a BC class without any real knowledge of calcululs when everyone else in there took like "IB Calc" or are a lil familiar with the material.

Oh. But if you're worried about your math background, there are a lot of prep book suggestions. You could get one and fill in the holes a little bit. I think you'll do fine, especially if you understand math well and are good at it. :D Good luck!

Your senior schedule doesn't look rigorous as compared to mine (7 APs). Not to brag, but you have a very good shot at BC. Moreover, I asked my AP Calc. teacher at school and she said there are 3 more units of lessons in BC. Also, you will receive a subscore of the AP Cal. AB test, so you are technically taking both and have nothing to loose. Finally, use this link to find the prep. book for AP Cal. and AB and BC. If you study, be in class everyday, and cover you whole prep. book with practice tests, you should have a guranteed 5, maybe a 4 if you having a bad day.

Go with BC. The material is slightly more in-depth and there are a few new concepts (one that comes to my mind is series). Getting a good score on the BC test is more likely to give you college credit. You seem to have a good maht background, so no worries.

Go with BC for sure. It gives you twice as much college credit as AB, and you aren't penalized for taking the harder exam since there's an AB subscore. And if you got an A in Precalc, you should have all the math background you need to succeed in BC.

the thing is since my school is new, theres only one BC class, and its during period 4, well i couldnt change my period 4 because its "music theory" and i need that fine art credit to graduate, plus thats the only time they offer "music theory", 4th period

so i thought, well there it was decided for me

anyways i got the calc book, and it has the ab and bc stuff in it. so maybe i can sign up to take the bc test still?

well im still now in AB, and i guess ill stick with that, because of the schedule situation, i might ask if i can self-study for BC, since the topics are also in my textbook, but idk what the teacher will say, she might not recommend

thanks for all the advice

Do that.
Take the AB class and do the BC test.
