(Sophomore here)
My school will only offer Calc AB and Math HL next year. Problem is that I really want to take the BC exam next year so I can do post-AP math. I also don't want to take Math HL because I've got other IB subjects that I want to do. What should I do?

My school only offers AB, so some people self-study the BC material and then take the BC test. You could try that, I guess.

^ okay. I'll ask help from the teacher then too

My daughter thought that Math HL was really for the math brainiacs and therefore took Math SL.

Do you see yourself as a future math major, engineer type? She thought that HL was geared more to that type of student.

As far as credit for IB classes, highly competitive colleges give gredit or advanced standing for HL exams, not SL, and you have to have a 5 or better on the exam for credit/advanced standing. Is your Math HL a two year class? If it is, it seems like it would be a lot of work for math that might not be needed for your future college plans to take an exam where you might not get credit if you only get a 4 on the exam. It just might be easier to take Calc AB and self study for the BC exam.
