So like, I like math and I want to get ahead in Calculus before I take it so what AP Calculus Prep Book would be the best for me to use since I'm going to be learning using it myself (in other words, it's practically self-study) and will need it again later in the year during the actual AP exam. So, pretty much, I want a book that's the most comprehensive.

i tried barron's 2008 one, that one is like crap since if you don't know anything about calc then it doesn't help you learn it, just review. i learned some of it using the IDIOTS calculus orange book but that isn't really a "review" book so try reading through that first to grasp the concepts, then using some other review. i'd try to get a tutor for calc tho, because unless you have a good math background, you'll kind of struggle with new concepts, i know i did

I wouldn't recommend doing this. If you decide to go along with it, however, I would definitely look into a tutor, and getting a comprehensive prep book. Ice made a good point in getting a more general IDIOTS GUIDE book or something related before buying a more in-depth book like Barron's. Good luck!

No, the truth is, I like math a lot. I don't have trouble learning math, as I'm going to be a Junior taking Calculus in the upcoming year. So, I just want a book that's able to teach me the concepts well.

I used school textbooks to self-study calculus along with a little Barron's and a a lot of this website (Pauls Online Notes : Calculus I -- this could replace a textbook, really) to help me review. Some common textbooks are by Stewart and Larson.

I used Larson for calc I and Stewart for calc II; both worked just fine, especially with supplementary material and online forums for when I needed to ask for help :) I used Physics Help and Math Help - Physics Forums for that. You might want to do a search on that site: plenty of students there have asked about self-studying calculus.

azn, calculus,i gotta admit, had given me some hard time this yr, i took precal and calc at the same time, though precal is basically useless. im a strong math student too, but im pretty sure u're brighter. but without a tutor or a teacher, it is very hard to learn the concepts of calculus.

its better if u have someone to lead u. calc is a completely diff course from alg T_T
