I’m trying to figure out my senior schedule. I’m not a math/science person and I’m planning on maybe a political science or English major. I’m currently in precalc, and I’ve taken geometry and honors Algebra 2 so far.
Should I take Calc AB or Stats?
It depends upon your grades in Precalc. If you can handle AB then do that. Otherwise take Stats. If you like maths then by all means take BC. It’s a fun and high paced class.
How have you done so far in math, and do you enjoy it? It depends on what colleges you are looking at, but most would be fine with a non-math/eng major not taking Calc. If you are looking at highly competitive schools, then they will want strong GPA and rigorous schedule. Both Calc and Stats would give you that so go with which you would enjoy more and do well in. Good luck!
It’s been said by many upperclassmen and fellow CCers that one should wait until college to take Statistics, since the college class is almost always better, however if you don’t feel you are quite ready for Calculus, by all means take AP Statistics.
How well are you doing in pre-calculus?
What colleges are you aiming for?
Considering your goals, it seems stats would be okay, but be ready to take it again, or at a higher level than elementary stats, once in college.
@MYOS1634 I’m looking at mostly small private LACs. ex) Barnard, Tufts, Amherst, Wesleyan
I got a B first semester and I currently have an A in precalc.
