AP Calc

Quick question-
Prospective Medill student and I just had a question regarding AP Calc. I am a year ahead of most students and therefor will take calc my Junior year, but nevertheless I have never been a big math geek. If I am already taking an extremely rigorous schedule which includes 6 APs, but do you think it is a negative that I just take normal academic Calc? (after all I am a Medill prospective with tons of Lit and History APs) It would be my only academic class. Does it really matter which APs that you take, or that you just challenge yourself?
Thanks

If your taking 5+ APs it’s probably fine, but if you’ve been taking honors math classes freshman and sophomore year and you suddenly jump to the lower regular non-honors track it kind of looks bad. What APs are you taking? If you want Medill make sure you take AP Lang and Lit if they’re available to you and yes probably some humanities too (the Histories, Human Geography, maybe Econ etc). If you’ve been an AP/honors science and math student all your life it really doesn’t make sense to start taking easier classes if your doing good in them. Then again I know taking lots of APs is stressful (I’m taking 7 this year in fact and right now it is not fun). As long as you schedule is getting more rigorous it’s probably fine cuz you don’t want to go insane taking APs, but you don’t want to show your stepping down the difficulty in any individual subject either usually if possible. Since your taking 5 APs your probably taking two humanities or something right? It might benefit you to consider pushing one of the classes you want to take to your senior year (and maybe drop math senior year?) so adding AP calc isn’t impossible and take an additional elective or free period just so your scaling difficulty in all your classes.

AP lit junior and senior, AP US soph and junior, AP psych junior, AP euro senior, AP micro senior and macro junior, AP enviro junior, AP Physics senior, AP Statistics senior. AP comp sci senior That’s just some lol. Didn’t take honors math at all fresh and soph. But com sci and stat are both maths…

This will mke it easier:
FRESH:
Honors lit
Honors world CIC

SOPH:
Honors lit
Honors Latin
Honors Chem
AP US

JUNIOR:
AP LIT
AP PSYCH
AP US
AP MICRO
AP ENVIRO
(Honors Latin)

SENIOR:
AP LIT
AP EURO
AP COM SCI
AP PHYSICS
AP MACRO
AP STAT
(Honors Latin)

Also my GPA is growing exponentially each year on and I have yet to get a B in any class and just 1 A-

Ok, since your taking computer science and stats senior year and aren’t really changing the difficulty of your classes too much it should be fine. It seems like you have the grades with basically all As you’ll need to get admitted to NU so I don’t really see anyone saying you need to take another AP on top of all your taking given your taking 5x as many APs as last year.
