So I’ve already taken 5 years of math (including calculus) and im entering my senior year wondering if i should take AP Calculus or not. I plan to major in engineering in college while playing baseball on a full ride, and the only reason that I would take it is to keep my math skills up. Is it worth it?
Keep taking math if your going into engineering. How far did you get with Calc? Does your school offer anything above Calc 1? Some schools have Calc 1/2 then Multivariate Calc. Some have linear algebra etc.
Not sure how you took 5 years of math in HS without taking AP calc, but it doesn’t matter. As a potential engineering student, you want to take the hardest math you can in high school. My D is not an eng student (but I am an eng), she is also a D3 basketball player. You want to ensure that you are well prepared for college, especially if you are playing a sport. Take any and every math class you can in HS. While my D does not play your sport, and only plays D3 (I assume you are D1 or D2) she practices all year. Engineering is very time consuming and difficult, be as prepared as you can going into college.
I think it would be helpful. If your school offers both Calc AB and BC you should consider BC since it will cover more material and help you be more prepared for whatever calc you need to take in college.
