AP Calculus AB 2008

why "Go figure?"

A 3, if you think about it in terms of percentage correct, is pretty comparable to your D- / F semester results.

I didn't care at all about the AP test since I cruised through the class with B's. Got a 1 haha. O well, doesn't matter anyway...

a miracle happened... i got a 5.

our teacher made AP Calc AB hard; what we did in class was wayyyyyy harder than the exam, and I had a C and B- for my semester grades, respectively.

i thought the MC was really easy, but the FRQ was really hard.

i heard that students outside the US take an international version. is that true?

The curve for calc seems WAY too nice.

No, a 3 is considered passing for AP. A D-/F is a horrible grade. You can't bring percentage into AP exams where a 65% will give you a 5, the highest grade possible.

Right, it doesn't make sense to judge an AP based on percentage: they standardize the exam a certain way so that that percentage is equivalent to scoring the corresponding letter grade. The exam questions are more difficult and have more breadth than typical exam questions so that they can cover the bases of all equivalent college courses, which is more information than any single college course will provide.

My AP Calc teacher was awesome. I was one of the three sophomores taking the test. The MCQ were fine. I bombed the limit parts in FRQs but I completely PWNed that oil spill question. Oh well, I was expecting a high 4 or low 5.
I got a 5 though, YAY!!!

omg,idk how u guys take calculus as a sophomore, i've even seen some taking BC in sopho yr T_T, im the only junior in my school taking calculus, passed with a 5, how can u guys, sophomores take it? lol thats just amazing =]

@Ren
We have block schedule here and can take two non-calculus (or AP stats) math classes a year. For me, I just started early and skipped some math. I was in Algebra II as a freshman (it was too late for me to start calculus, as it is a year-long course here, while it took me half the year to finish Algebra II)

i got a 5

the BC test is supposed to be easier than the AB test, right? i'm taking BC next year (math's my strong point, but i was just curious)

So far, everyone I know got a 5, including every sophomore (approximately 100 sophomores took the AP Calc AB exam). Of course I haven't asked them all, but I haven't met one yet that hasn't gotten a 5. Our teacher WAS amazing. Probably the best math teacher I've ever had.

^? omg???!!!
SOPHOMORES?! -.- im the only freakin junior in the school who took the calc class, im one of the 3 that got a 5, out of 16 students(the only calc class in school).

meh, thats just crazy.

@Ren

Don't be surprised. O_o;; We probably had 100 sophomores minimum take it. Can't guarantee a 5.. but sophomores.

I got a 4 on the exam. I'm the first person from my school to pass the test. I had an AWESOME teacher, but he wasn't completely sure how to prepare us...since no one had ever passed before. It's not his fault no one had passed, though...people who weren't "fit" to take AP Calculus took it. Most people only took it because they needed another math class, AP Calc was the only thing there was to take, and there was no regular Calculus class. Our school is 4 years old and only has 700 kids...what do you expect?

But hey, I got a 4!! Woohooo!

Oh well, so I did get a 5. But i still feel very awkward about the question that I think bombed for the FRQ section. It was number 3 about the volumetric flowthing.

Can anyone solve the whole question for me? Im pretty sure I need to know this before I goto BC, so I would appreciate if someone can help out.

If it's too long to post here, can you PM me?

Thanks alot, cheers all 5ers!

I know someone who took BC as a freshman. They were allowed to skip Geometry and precalc, and they self studied the extra BC topics.

Much of BC is the same as AB, so it's not a big deal if you don't remember everything from one year to the next. I never took AB and got a 5 on BC.

So, what do you guys recommend as a prep book? Or, how was your experience with the one you got? I'd like to know as I'm heading into this class this upcoming year.

i didn't use any prep books;however,i did do the past FRQ's from the past, from collegeboard.
look for the stickied thread.it has sources

I used no prep. I didn't even study actually lol. I always did calc tho, so that could've helped.

ummm..

i got a 5 too!

hehehehe
