AP Calculus AB exam

i took the course at my school this year and don't really feel confident about taking the AP exam. would a college look down on taking the course and not taking the exam? most of the colleges i would like to attend won't give credit unless you score a 5 or 4 on the exam.

Are you a junior or a senior? If you are a senior, it doesn't matter; colleges won't see that you didn't take it until after you have been admitted (although, in this case I would take it anyway because you also don't have anything to lose). If you are a junior, I'm not sure which would be the best choice. I know that I took calc AB last year and did not feel comfortable at all a month before the exam. Then, I got the Princeton Review book and just about relearned the entire curriculum (or rather refreshed my memory). I ended up with a 4. Good luck to you!

Take it, becaue if you so bad you can cancel the scores anyway before they reach their respective colleges. If you do good, then all the better for you!!!:)

I agree with seahorse. If you are a senior then it really isn't important. If you are a junior it would depend on how comfortable you are. I had a horrible teacher last year for AP US History who taught us nothing. I studied by myself and ended up getting a 3. However, most of the people in my class either did not take the test or did not pass. You can always cancel your scores though. I would say that if you are a junior and plan on taking AP tests next year you might want to take it as practice for those tests. I know every AP test is different, but it may help you feel a little more comfortable next year.

thanks for commenting. to clarify, i am a junior. i would consider taking the test and just canceling my scores if i fail miserably, but i don't want to waste the $82 to take the test since i'm planning on taking 3 other ones.

I thought my school was the only one that charged us the great $82 fee! What school are you applying to? I kind of have the impression that some of them would rather you take it and get a 3 then not take it at all. Are you going to take calc BC next year? I myself got a 3 my junior year and am currently in BC.

Oh, and not only can you cancel, but colleges don't see those scores unless you specifically send them...so you could just opt out of sending yours scores. To me cancelling provides no sense of closure:)
