I am a sophomore at a boarding school and I have to decide the courses to take next year.
For math, I can take Ap calculus Ab or AP Calculus BC. But I am not very good at math even though I have taken honor Algebra II and Honor Precalculus. And I am thinking about taking AP calculus AB instead of BC. But I am afraid that my admission will get hurt if I do not take the most rigorous math class. So my qustion is "

since your math isn’t that good I’d recommend Calculus AB? My school usually makes us take Calculus AB AP before taking Calculus BC AP (which is weird, but we do it anyways), so you could always try it our way if you want. Besides, you’re already a sophomore taking it so gotta give you props :p

It sounds like you have a two-year track to take BC, or a two-year track to take AB. Brown’s a school where the honors classes are filled, even though people know they’ll hurt their GPA, because they want to take on a challenge. Calculus is a good deal different from other maths: I know people who were darn near perfect in math till they took calculus, and others who find it a lot easier than other maths.

In your case, if you can take AB this year, then BC next year, that’s what I’d do: you’d get a really strong foundation in calculus, you’d be pretty well assured of understanding the AB material, and you’d probably get plenty of time to study the BC material.
