AP Calculus AB v. Calculus I

If I get a D on Calculus AB and drop it for 2nd semester, I was planning on taking Calculus I for that 2nd semester instead at a community college instead of HS. Would that replace my GPA to a 4.0 instead of a 1.0 if I get an A on calculus I 2nd semester.

Your grade at the Community College will not affect your GPA (positively or negatively) unless it is a dual credit course with your high school.

is AP calc and calc 1 a dual credit course?

If you’re in CA then I believe your CC course stays separate from your HS transcript.

If you are getting a D now, what makes you think you might get an A in a CC course? Usually, one semester at a CC is equivalent to one year of a HS course.

AP calc and calc I would only be a dual credit course if your particular high school entered into a teaching partnership with a particular community college. It doesn’t sound like that is the case at your high school.

You can only replace D or F grades by retaking the exact same course at the same school. So Calc I at a community college will not make up for a D in AP Calc.

However, assuming you’re a senior, UCs don’t consider those grades for admission anyway.

I’m a junior, but then again, I’m busy over summer.
