I am a sophomore at a boarding school and I have to decide the courses to take next year.
For math, I can take Ap calculus Ab or AP Calculus BC. But I am not very good at math even though I have taken honor Algebra II and Honor Precalculus. And I am thinking about taking AP calculus AB instead of BC. But I am afraid that my admission will get hurt if I do not take the most rigorous math class. So my qustion is "

why in the WORLD is this on the columbia forum???

lol seriously get the hell out of here

I suspect erkbyk is going to apply to Columbia. If you want to study engineering, you better take BC. If you are going to major in a humanities, you should be okay with AB. The answer might be different for your application to other schools - such as MIT, CalT, etc.

Lol, why do I see this exact same thread in every single forum?

sigh

And Boston College and Boston University and Tufts and John Hopkins and NYU and Dartmouth and Cornell and College Admissions and Parents Forum…

….

fyi, it’s probably okay to take AB instead of BC. I’m taking Calc AB and I got into college just fine.

OP, I recommend AP Calculus AC/DC.

If you’ve only taken pre-calc, are you ready for Calc BC? I thought Calc BC required Calc AB as a prerequisite.

One option is to take Calc AB, and then take the Calc BC AP exam. My son’s high school did not offer Calc BC, but his teacher helped prepare the kids who wanted to take the Calc BC AP exam. He and many of his pals got 5s on the Calc BC AP exam.
