AP Calculus BC + IB Math HL VS. AP Stats + IB Math HL

Hey guys
I am considering to take 2 math courses this year.

One option for me is
IB Math HL (certificate) and AP Calculus BC

Another option is
IB Math HL (certificate) and AP Statistics

Which combination will be better for me? (wanna go to top engineering school)
since I am a Junior, do I just go for stats next year?

Take Calculus BC. You'll be done with calculus early, which could give you a chance to explore higher math senior year, such as at a community college. Although it depends on the program, you're likely to receive credit for BC anywhere so you can skip around a bit.

well im not sure. u may want to acquaint yourself with a bit of statistics and probability for your math HL test. at my school the actual IB class doesnt prepare you for ****. i took the IB math SL, mind you, and it had some statistics and probability when i hadnt taken either or known of either. i still managed a 6, but you should probably know some statistics for the test (seeing as how it was on SL, im sure itll be on HL). if your school prepares you well tho, then by all means go enjoy Calc BC

I agree that it depends both on your HL curriculum and your college plans.

If your HL teacher teaches you enough stats for Papers 1 and 2 of the HL test, and prepares you well for a paper 3 topic, then I would probably go with Calc BC. It will include calculus stuff that could help you on the HL test, and vice versa, and you're likely to get more college credit than you would for AP stats (it might also get you better placement than the HL test would in calculus, so if you plan to go into math, this could be useful).

However, the poster above me makes a good point that many teachers of IB Math tend to gloss over the stats portion of the test, and this will majorly hurt you if you have no stats background. Stats is also a Paper 3 option, and AP stats would prepare you for that. Thus, if your teacher chooses stats for paper 3, you would be extra prepared, and if your teacher prepares you for a different Paper 3 choice, you would have stats to fall back on if either the subject was something you just didn't like, or if you got senioritis and didn't want to learn a whole new topic at the end of the year.

In my school, IB Math HL is a two Year course. Do you guys think taking AP Calculus BC this year and report this to collge admission will be better than taking stats this year?
I can take AP Statistics at the following year(senior year)

Because IB Exam will take place when I become senior year. Then I will take AP statistics course as a reinforcement course for statistics part of the IB Exam.

o, then take calc. calc looks better than stats. ur gunna have the calc reinforcement by the IB exam neways.
