AP Calculus BC Scores--List them here, and your EXPERIENCE!!

I saw threads with this theme going around, and since a LARGE percentage of the people on CC take Calc BC, I though maybe I'd put all of the BC scores in one thread.

REMEMBER please talk abut your experience on the test, so that this thread is ACTUALLY helpful for future generation, a set of scores without any explanation doesn't really help ;)

Lets go:

I'm still waiting for my score, but I though the test wasn't really too bad, the NO-Cal-MC was decent, the Cal-MC was a bit easier. There were a bit more MC on series than I had hoped for, but it wasn't too bad, if you knew series. The FRQ's weren't too bad. I know I made some silly errors on them, but overall they weren't bad.

I think got a 5, as for my prediction, I think I probably got somewhere in the neighborhood of 64%-75% on the RAW test!!

I got a 5. I'm pretty sure I went 106/108 (I missed that Lagrange error bound question on one of the free responses)...so I thought the test was pretty easy.

I got a 5, but I struggled. I had no problems with the calculator multiple choice, but i left out 4 or 5 of the other multiple choice and guessed on a couple others. The long answers, I left feeling terrible, but we went over them in class and I realized I knew more than I thought.. but I screwed up the last question and left out 1 or 2 parts of a couple of others.

I didn't think it as bad at all because my teacher prepped us A LOT, and our school has an extremely high "5" rate. Um, I know I missed a few mc and I screwed up a large portion of question 6, but other than that it was good.

Only a little surprised. Last year's BC Calc teacher (who suuuucked) quit, and so we had a new BC teacher this year; he also teaches AP Stats at our school. He did extremely well for his first year.

Anyway, I didn't walk out of that test feeling too strong. On the no-calc MC, I skipped an entire EIGHT questions, just because I didn't have time. However on the Calc MC, I'm almost positive I got 100% - I had 20 minutes to triple check my answers. I did pretty well on the FRQ, the first seemed entirely too easy and I got the Lagrange Error question, but I know I made some silly mistakes, like on the Domain and Range questions.

Our class covered everything except series, so pretty much the day before I skimmed through a formula sheet with all the convergence tests. But I ended up remembering them all wrong and screwed up every series-based question except the Taylor series one. The AP exam was trivial compared to the class tests my teacher gave us (we had to do epsilon-delta proofs and know the proof of most of the theorems in differential calculus). So nailing every non-series question saved my butt and got me the 5.

5: 6

Our school of nearly 1400 only had six people taking the BC test. I felt great coming out of the test, both MC sections were far easier than practice tests I had taken (especially the calc MC). FRQ wasn't too bad, besides of course that pesky Lagrange error bound question...

5: 7

Our teacher already covered everything before spring break. I was very delighted taking the test (call me crazy, I'm used to it). I wasn't sure on 1 no-calc mc and not very confident on another subsection of free response. I thought it was abnormally easy.

5: 8

Teacher covered everything superbly - I thought I had gotten the LaGrange wrong because I guessed on it, but checking the textbook later I had actually done it right. Test was easy.

^lol no one gets lower than a 5 or they don't admit

Taking calculus BC next year. I heard from the seniors that it is a GPA-killer. Was that true for you guys?

I'm taking it next year, but at my school only about 15 or less out of 3500 students take the exam each year...

I hope I'm not the first one here to get less than a five (waiting on my scores, NJ)

We had 250 people take the exam, and for me it definitely wasn't a GPA killer. I know my teacher would give as low as a 75 on the report card, but that was very rare... I got a 95 even though I struggled with the class.

5: 9

I got a 5 as well - but I took it as self-study because I was doing IB Math HL at the same time (which I think was more difficult). Just to note, I took the late testing paper, which by comparison to Form A and B, was much easier.

The m-c for me was basically full of standard questions with a few tricks here and there - I probably got most of them. The free-response was actually different. Section A was easy (standard questions without the last, wordy, difficult-to-understand, killer question...usually part (d) or (e) in each question). Section B was easy as well, but the questions were totally different. Being familiar with IB style questions that require a lot of manipulation and insight, I could do the questions - but they were not typical AP questions (this is the non-calculator part).

Nonetheless, I left the room with a smile =D

haha....i'll be the only person taking calc BC at my school. I've heard that the Series part of BC requires a lot of memorization...is this true?

It's not too bad you'llsee. You have to memorize the rules but they fit into a page or so in a textbook, so it's not overbearing

^ thanks, laurgirl220

Those who took calculus...

Back in Pre-calc (if you guys still remember :) ) we had to memorize a whole bunch of trig identities, like sin 2x, sin x/2, sin squared x, and sin (a+b). Are we going to use those in calculus?

I thought I was done with those too, but the dreaded trig identities NEVER go away. NEVER!!!

They came back to haunt me. When I tried to ignore them, I got my calc test back with a big red D on the top.
