***AP Calculus BC Thread 2015-2016***

I don’t have experience with the Chung book, but personally, I don’t think AoPS would be the right choice for someone who isn’t that good at math. The books were made specifically for those who want to compete in mathematics competitions, and the Calculus textbook was designed with the USAMO/IMO qualifier in mind.

Haha. I’m transferring out of AB to take this course. I’m a rising senior, got 2 As in Geometry, 2 Bs in Alg 2/Trig, and a B and an A in Pre-Calc H. fun times in calc bc amirite

@Kyuutoryuu or anyone

Does the AB subscore count as a separate test toward AP Scholar awards?

@nw2this It explicitly states on the AP website that the AB subscore does not count towards awards.

Help with question from daughters summer review packet.

What is cos theta/2 - cos theta? thx.

Nope.

@nw2this Are they asking you to find the identity of that? Is it an expression or an equation?

@michelle426
Never mind she figured it out using the half angle identities. Thanks.

@nw2this the AB subscore doesn’t count but if you just take the plain AB exam next year that score will count. I took BC as a sophomore and got double 5s and considered taking the AB exam as a junior (I needed 1 more exam for national ap scholar) but I decided to self study psych instead. If you need the extra exam for some accolade like I did you should take the AB exam separately but it might look suspicious to colleges.

My AP Calc BC teacher is awesome! He said that he NEVER assigns homework on the weekends because he says he is a family guy and wants people to spend time with their family (and because he did some research on the effectiveness of homework on weekends). He only assigns homework two times a week and two nights ago when I had to do it, it only took me 15 minutes and he even gives us in-class time to do it!!! I sure wish those ideas would pass on to my other teachers, like my IB English and IB History teachers, with their infinite amount of homework each night. :slight_smile:

I’m not sure it will look “suspicious,” since IMO AP Scholar wards are not a big bump in the admission process. I do, however, think that taking the AB exam after the BC exam is a waste of $91.

Wait exams cost 91 (now 92) dollars? At my school, they cost $95… That’s a $4 price hike from 2013-2014…

Is Khan academy a good resource to study for the AP exam? If so, then I’m not going to get a prep book

Hey @Thatuser, I clicked on the link and the files could not be found. Do you mind posting a new link? I would love to look over the final notes you were refering to, since I’ll be self-studying for the AP Calculus BC exam this year. Thank you in advance :slight_smile:

Hey, I know this is super late, but I hope this piece of insight helps you (or future students). My friend self-studied AP Calculus BC using the “Calculus One” course on Coursera taught by The Ohio State University, and practice tests she found online, and she got a 5.

I’m using the course right now as well - it’s pretty useful! Plus, it’s free to sign up. I wouldn’t use it on its own, because I don’t think it covers ALL the concepts you need for the AP Calculus BC exam, but it’s a great place to start.

Can anyone give me advice on how to study for this exam?
I’ve gotten A’s and B’s in my class, but I feel like the majority is from simply cramming prior to my assessments. Would going through a review book be good enough for me? What practice problems are the best?

My biggest concern is probably seeing a problem and not knowing what exactly what to do :frowning:

Back again. Does anyone have any recommendations for books or online resources that are really good reviews? I’m particularly having trouble with taylor series and convergence and stuff like that.

We have an entire month from April to May to review for the BC exam :slight_smile:

Hi guys!! Hope everyone is doing well. I’m currently trying to review for the multiple choice on the exam but I can’t find any released questions from recent years. Does anyone know where I could find reliable practice MC questions?
