Ap Calculus

Hi Guys,
What ARE you guys' grades in Chapter 1????
I feel pretty bad, because I get 91%, which is almost a B.....
Suck for me....I can't imagine what will I get in other harder chapters?
crap....We are only doing reviews .

This is a weird thread.

I can comment by saying that the chapters you do later in calculus tend to be easier if you’re a hard worker. The beginning chapters were mostly tedious work that i didn’t care for, so i tended to do worse on tests that covered those chapters than tests that covered the “harder chapters.”

91? stop being a CCer. It’s going to be ok. I got a 78 on chapter one (just precalc review) and i haven’t died yet.

Grades will vary so much from instructor to instructor, because they choose to write their tests in different ways. I designed my first test covering limits and precalculus concepts so that the mean would be somewhere between 80 and 85% if they knew what they were doing well, and I’m giving this test to a group of students who have never averaged below the mid-90’s in their lives. But I also think it’s important for students in the early going to recognize that the AP Exam also will ask them questions that were certainly not designed to be scored by a 90-80-70-60 style rubric as well. Their grades will turn out to be fine, so long as they keep working at it, but I also want to challenge them.

If your instructor has the same kind of philosophy, then a 91% might be exceptional. If your instructor does not, a 91% might only be great. :)

TheMathProf, I’m almost wondering if you’re my math teacher…he said almost the exact same things after our first couple of tests in BC…

I actually got a D on my first Calculus test, which was more of a review of pre-calc concepts than anything else. I was pretty mad at myself since it was rare for me to get even a B, but you really kind of have to take it as a challenge. It’s not supposed to be an easy class; the teachers certainly don’t design them to be since they’re trying to prepare you for the AP exam. I have an 86 in the class right now, but it’s going up since I understand everything we’re doing pretty well. (We’re on implicit differentiation now) I’m confident that I can bring it to an A eventually though since I plan on working for it.

Nonexistent, you said “tests” (plural), and I’ve only given one test so far. Don’t worry, you’re safe. :)

I have a 98 in the class right now. It’s my highest grade besides Honors English, and it’s honestly one of my easier classes. My class is only AB though, so we move pretty slow.
