AP Chem/AP Bio/AP Physics C: Choose 2

Hello everyone,

I am currently a sophomore taking H Chem. I took physics freshman year, and between Junior and Senior years I will only have enough tracks to take one science course each year.

Considering I haven't taken any biology, I think I should probably take that as one. But my school's AP Bio teacher doesn't have the best reputation, and while its possible to get an A in her class, it takes a lot of personal studying to do well on the AP test. She also doesn't give as much homework as Chem or Physics.

My H Chem teacher is the AP Chem teacher, and he is amazing. Almost all of his students get 5's or 4's, but his class is by far the most work out of any science class. I am doing well in his class this year, but I am taking 4 other AP classes next year and do several extra-curriculars plus a varsity sport, so time and sleep also are running short.

Physics C I can only take as a senior, as it is only offered to them. I am going to take AP BC Calculus Junior year, so I don't think I'll have a problem with the math, and I also thoroughly enjoyed physics in freshman year, which is really the only reason I want to take this class.

I plan on either studying medicine or engineering in college, so I'm not sure which to take. Also, I could possibly take 2 science courses senior year, but that would require summer school to finish other requirements and would destroy my senior year. Which would be best for studying medicine or engineering in college? Also, which two look best to colleges?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Definitley take AP Biology especially if you want to ge into medicine or even engineering. After that, take AP Physics.

Thanks for that. I think that’s how I’m leaning. But when my Chem teacher gave us his presentation for his AP Chem class, he kept emphasizing how colleges see AP Chem as a better class than AP Bio or APES. Is that true?

He’s kinda right. I think AP Chem is generally considered a little more challenging than AP Bio and a good deal challenging than AP ES. Don’t get me wrong, AP Bio is not a walk in the park, but I’d say it’s the least challenging of the 3 AP science courses. If you want the most challenging combination, pick AP Physics C and AP Chem.

But, if you’re interested in medicine and engineering, I’d probably go with AP Biology and AP Physics C. Physics is great to have for engineering, and Biology is great to have for medicine. Chemistry would work for both, really.

AP Bio.

AP Physics.

I agree with the others. Bio and Physics seems like the best combo for you
