im taking IB chem SL. i am a sophomore. i want college credits… is taking IB chem enough to get at least a 4 on an AP exam? does anybody know what kind of test it is? like, are there any essay? how much does it cost? please reply… thanks

honeslty, i think it depends more on how comfortable you feel with the subject before u decide to take the AP test. By that i mean, you should feel confident that you could kick any chem test's butt before stepping into the ap test room. I say this because my friend took IB chem and was able to get a 3 on the exam. I know for sure that the amount of material covered in AP and IB is different enough to make IB students draw a blank quite a few times during the exam. However, this is just one incident that i have heard of and i would take it with a grain of salt. If you're really deciding on whether or not to take the AP, i would start cracking down on a Kaplan or Princeton Review AP chem book and make sure u understand whats going on (Kaplan's better if u have time, PR best for last minute cramming). Overall, unless u feel really comfortable i wouldn't suggest taking the AP to shoot for a 4 on the exam. As for what kind of test, it's a bunch of mutliple choice (i think 80, can't remember) and i think 6 free response questions. The first FRQ you will be given an option between two types of questions and you choose the one u feel more comfortable with. Also there is a section dedicated to writing equtaions, which is another pain in the butt. The cost of an AP is around $85 but i could be wrong. You're best bet is to go out and buy an AP review book for all the details. Good luck!
