I took honors chemistry this year and I loved the course. Although, I do not intend to do a major related to chemistry in the future and I was hoping for any opinions on the course and if it would be worth taking given that I don’t plan to major in a science related field. I’ve heard it’s a very demanding class but I personally do not know enough about the course itself to make a good decision for the future.
Have you taken bio and physics? If not, taking one of those should be your top priority.
My D found AP chem to be the second hardest AP course she too,k but much of that was because they had a new teacher that was ill prepared and didn’t understand the material.
I would suggest you ask current students in your school who have taken the course. They can give you a better sense of how much work to expect. If it’s something you enjoy and have room in your schedule, I say to go for it.
@momofsenior1 I have not taken either but I honestly did not like bio as a freshmen (mainly due to my class) which pretty much steered me away from taking AP. For some reason my school strongly recommends taking AP after taking honors so I will be taking honors physics this incoming school year in hopes to take AP the next. I am going to try to talk to more kids at my school (my schools AP chem numbers are very low) but my school also considers chem to be very hard.
I wasn’t clear - you don’t need to take AP versions of the science classes, just some level of bio, chem, and physics and then one of them AP.
Do you have room in your schedule for both AP chem and honors physics? Don’t short change yourself in another core area to double up on science. For example, it’s common on CC to hear students dropping their foreign language but for many colleges, they prefer to see 4 years.
