Hey guys,
I was wondering if you could share the level of difficulty in these classes.
I want to take both, but my current chemistry honors teacher says that doing both would be impossible, since there is (apparently) a huge jump from chemistry honors to AP.
Frankly, as a math person, I am more inclined to take Chem AP, and not both, but my parents do not seem to understand this.
Is there a way I can take both? Or should I only take one?
Many, many students take both at the same time. The teacher will dictate the workload, so you would be wise to ask students currently in the classes. My experience has been to anticipate approx 45-60 min of homework per night. Chem you will also have lab reports and APUSH you will probably have a research paper.
I did not find the jump from honors to AP that wide. I did find that I understood some of the concepts better the second time around, and since it was the same teacher, I can’t blame quality of teaching in honors
It depends on you. But your teacher is wrong. Many students take 4, 5 APs at the same time.
I think if you fall behind AP Chem then you may have problem with catching up. Catching up APUSH is easier: re-read the materials.
@skieurope Many, many sophomores or juniors??
juniors
Thanks so much @skieurope and @coolweather!
Hopefully I will be able to take both (our classes are based on teacher recommendation)
People take 7 APs at a time and do well, it will certainly not be impossible but it all depends on your school.
I’m in AP Chem right now and it’s a pretty challenging class. I had straight A’s last year in honors chem and it would really make AP chem easier with a strong base of taking honors chem
As for APUSH, if you aren’t a history type of person, i wouldn’t suggest taking it. I took AP world my sophomore year and found it really challenging. However, if you want to strive for a college history credit than take it. I know a lot of people who take both AP chem and APUSH so it shouldn’t be that bad.
APUSH was, for me, easier than AP World. It’s just tedious, not hard.
AP Chem will be review of honors chem for the first month or two, also.
