AP Chem then SAT Chem?

Will taking AP Chem this year prepare me for the subject test?

Definitely, about every topic covered on the subject test should be taught in ap chem.

I took the SAT subject test after I took honours chem, but my AP chem teacher said that while every topic is covered, they are typically covered in more depth than what the SAT subject test requires you to know, so students who take it after honours chem tend to have better scores than the kids who take it after AP chem, because the AP-ers tend to overthink the questions ^.^

He was just talking about his students though, so this may not be a general thing.

Thanks for the help!

And @LAMuniv‌ , unfortunately by the time I’ll take the test it’ll be two and a half years after honors chem, but I will have taken AP. I’ll try not to overthink it! What was your score, if you don’t mind?

I got below a 600 haha. I did fine on practice tests, but this was the first standardised test I’d taking in many years and I have very bad test anxiety. (I got a 4 on the AP exam, so I do actually know chemistry haha)

Definitely. I took it with minimal prep after the AP Test. I got an 800. 5 on AP Chem if that adds context.

I got an 800 and 5 as well. In my opinion, the AP exam is harder than the SAT II. If you know enough to do well on the AP exam, you definitely know enough to do well on the subject test. Just make sure to look over a review book for Chemistry SAT II, since the format is a little weird and it might throw you off if the first time you see it is on the day of the test.

I agree. I made a 2 on the AP exam and did the practice questions on the SAT website and only missed a couple because I read the questions wrong. Chem II is definitely easier than the AP exam.

An AP course will cover topics in greater depth than what is tested on the SAT Chem test, but the SAT Chem test does have some unique question types that you want to become familiar with before the day of your test. The best way to get a good score is to do practice tests. Here is a link for a website that has over 500 practice questions for the SAT Chem test: https://www.learnerator.com/sat-subject-test-in-chemistry
