Im takin both next year...which is harder? which is more work?

if u are more mathematically inclined chemistry is easier

I definately think Chem is harder...at least at our school.

I definitely think AP Chemistry is harder. I took AP Biology last year and didn't think it was hard although I got a 4 on the test... lack of studying I guess. Well, AP Chemistry, on the other hand, is very hard for me. I am struggling and I don't know how I will do on the AP exam next week. But this is my case and I wouldn't know how you would think.

AP Chem is harder...but totally do-able. It's just a lot of material to memorize.

The two classes are very different. AP Chemistry is much more math based, with lots of problems to work while AP Biology is a lot more lecture and memorization based. Both requjire significant preperation for the AP exam, but the Bio involves a lot more reading, memorization and regurgitation of facts on the test.

chem is WAY HARDER.
Involves WAYYY Too much thinking.

Bio is just pure memorization and it's interesting to learn

who wnats to learn about stupid molecules and equilibrium stuff...

go with bio man.

well i've never taken ap bio but chemistry really isn't that hard. if you're good at math and have GOOD STUDY SKILLS, then you should be fine. i bet bio would be a lot harder for me. bio is probably more work b.c more memorizing.

i recommend two things for you in chem:
1. zumdalh textbook + solutions manual (helps a lot to get through the excercises and teaches you A LOT too)

princeton review for the AP. the chapter summaries may seem very very condensed but if you try hard in your class, this book is perfect. it'll summarize everytying for u quickly. the problems in each chapter are actually very very helpful for the ap. do those problems throughout the year if you need help undertsanding zumdalh. it'll help i swear

apcentral's past free responses should help a lot also.

anyways, this is sort of the way i studied for the ap. except i didn't find out that pr was so good until 2 weeks ago. anyways, i'm ready for the ap. i took a past ap exam for my chem final and i got a 5 (120 something raw score).

Bio is all reading, which isnt really work

Chem, however, is work. doing those stupid problems and solving those things...then throwing fits when u dont get them...thats work

Chemistry DOMINATES.

Bio is memorizing boring, useless junk which makes you want to beat yourself with your 50 lb Campbells textbook; chemistry is pure mathematical fun, or FON (!) to be specific.

AP BIO is EXCITING! EXTREME BIOLOGY!

AP Chemisty is also exciting.

In my opinion, they're both great subjects. Yes, biology is more memorization than chem, but they're just two different learning styles. Chemistry is more logic + principles, bio is memorization (up until the point where you can pick out patterns, then it gets fun).

I agree that AP chem is harder, but less reading than bio.

I'd take both if you can.

AP chem test this week...ahhh.

Ap chem is 100 times harder than ap bio. Ap chem is just as hard as ap physics, bio is more like ap us history, very easy to comprehend and remember.

From what i heard in my school, AP Bio is much harder than AP Chem (probably b/c we're a math oriented magnet school)...like everyone else said, AP Bio is basically memorization (which is probably why math geeks think it's hard :P) while AP Chem is just review of what you learned in Chem...I find AP Chem challenging, but not too bad if I study..
but I can assure you...AP Chem is much much easier than AP Physics...unless you're good with numbers and theory

you are going to get almost no sleep.

during the bio course, i've stayed up into like dead of night... and gone to bed around 1ish sometimes.

\
reading 400 pages is one thing, comprehending is another. i find i read the bio book of campbell's faster than a normal novel like catch-12.

I find ap chem much harder than ap physics. Physics was a brezee for me, it all makes sense the equations make sense, you can figure out your own equations that would make sense just by looking at the problems. Physics is much more tangable, chem although equally as prevelant is harder because much more memorization is required. Physics = math, hard to apply if you aren't in AB or higher, chem = memorize in order to do the math (you can't get by on just understanding math you need to memorize things that don't make sesne like soubility rules), bio = memeorize, no math unless you are talkin genetics which is pre alegrbra stuff.

so in the long run, it boils down to you..are you a math person? or a memorizer person? :D...for me, bio is easier b/c i can memorize...physics makes NO sense to me -_-..well it does, but it's confusing..and chem..chem i find to be a mix of bio and physics, so it's in between :D

he's taking both next year.. you are screwed... and will have a lot of studying.

haha, imagine an ap chem and ap bio test on the same day...

my freshman biology honors class was very hard for me; since i've gone to chemistry, however, i haven't had a problem. chem AP, in my opinion, is VERY straightforward. you learn the theory and not random facts, with the exception of flame test colors and lab stuff like that, and the math becomes second nature once you do enough of it. after a while, all the problems start to look the same, and the AP test becomes very familiar. i really think that AP chem is much easier than AP biology.
