ap chem vs. ap physics b: which one's harder?

ap chem vs. ap physics b: which one's harder and for what reasons?

Look on the left side and click on SAT/ACT.

There's a sub-forum called AP Tests Preparation. Click on that and ask it there. You will get better answers in that forum.

Look it up and see if someone has already asked this question.

Physics in general because it requires more math and involved the laws that bind our universe. In Physics you learn why,how and a math formula to use.

Check the median AP score of each. Stick with whichever one is higher.

May I refer you to XKCD 435 for more info.

physics was easy but a lot to remember

i'm taking ap chem next year (i hope)

I'd say Chem would be harder than Physics B, but Physics C would be harder than Chem. All this for typical student and not people that want to go "YEAH WELL BLAH BLAH BLAH I'M SO SPECIAL BLAH BLAH BLAH."

I agree with RacinReaver.

AP Chem > Physics B
Physics C > AP Chem

AP Physics C is the hardest class at our school, and I've heard from people that have taken both APs (at other schools) that B is a lot of memorization of formulas (while in C you have to be able to understand things). Memorizing formulas would probably be easier than AP Chem...

Likely my favorite xkcd comic.

I've taken Physics C and Chem, and they're both manageable. Chem is actually a tad harder at our school. My advice: if you're good at math and applying math, go for the physics. If you're good at memorization and just plain "getting the concept", but you're horrible at math, go for the Chem.

XKCD makes my day but I don't think that comic is really applicable because Physics B doesn't have calculus which makes it a lot easier.

physics B is harder, or at least at my school.
it depends on what you like and if you have a good teacher. in physics, you have to use math to solve everything. in chemistry, if you understand the general idea, everything just fall into it.

Haha I learned nothing from my teacher in Physics B. We had about 20 people in the beginning and we ended up having about 5-7 people that shows up by the end of the year. We ended up playing cards all the time while the teacher was either gone to work in NASA or we had horrible sub that knew nothing about physics.

Anyway I took the physics test and got a 5.

Chem is definitely harder, but I'd say go for physics because you could appreciate life and nature much more after you learn about it. It's the most interesting and useful that I would ever learn about.

For the class, Physics B is definitely harder [at my school]. About the exam, I haven't taken Chem but I've heard that that exam is like ;,KAMWFIWEJFO crazy hard.

Physics (regular) was my FIRST B EVER. i mean, it depends. but AP chem is known as one of the easiest AP subjects as long as you are interested in the subject. For me, I'm passionate about chemistry, and I'm not a physics person AT ALL, so the choice seemed easy to me.

While both subjects requires usage of math, physics tend to require a deeper understanding in mathematical concepts and you need to be able to to think about all aspects to a problem where as chemistry is straight forward. Again, I personally believe AP Chem is the easier path to a 5.

At my school, AP Chem is ridiculously hard, apparently. Even though I sort of enjoyed Regents Chemistry (when I worked hard, I got A's and A-'s), I opted to take AP Physics B. From students who have taken both, they say if you do the work, AP Physics B is very doable. It's also nice that there are huge curves on tests in our schools class, but that could be a good or bad thing. :D

haven't taken either of the subjects, but just to derail the thread: biology sucks. Majorly.

I'm willing to bet all my pokemon games that chemistry/physics are much better than biology.

Just to make sure I don't derail this topic completely, from the 8th grade intro to physical science or w/e it is, and based on the general description/definition of chemistry/physics, chemistry seems harder than physics.

Biology is boring. Chemistry is much better.

Yeahhh that's why my class of physics b was so hard. No curves at ALL. I'd come home with at 33 on a test, highest grade in the class, and of course our teacher refused to believe that we were unprepared for the test. BULL.

Invenianviam- Our teacher was like that too. Even if we all failed, he wouldn't curve it. He MIGHT let us do corrections to maybe get it up to a D, but not a curve.
