I’m currently a junior in high school and have AP Chem as my 1st period class. I currently have a low C in that class and it is 6 weeks into school. I’m not sure whether I should drop the class to save my gpa or keep it, in case I get a WD on my record. I don’t intend to major in anything related to Chem so some insight would help very much. Thank you
just stick with it for now. I know it can be hard but you have a couple of months to pick it up. I had a bad grade to and I picked It up to an A. I think you can do it to.
I’m a former AP Chem student and current AP Chem TA that grades numerous assesments for my class. PM me if you need anymore info.
Talk to your teacher. You’ll need an A in the next several weeks in order to get a B average for the semester: does your teacher think this is feasible, based on the mastery of the material you’ve demonstrated so far?
If so, persevere.
If your teacher is uncertain (or doesn’t sound convinced like you WILL get at least a B), drop. No one’s impressed with a C in an AP class and as for love of learning, you’re not learning enough if you’re getting a C.
HOWEVER you should take another class durnig that first period, anything you can be allowed to add instead. If you didn’t take Honors Chem, time to “drop down” and take that class. If it doesn’t fit into your schedule, take whatever elective’s offered first period and take Honors Chem online.
I’m in the same situation as you, I have a C in that class and I’m really hoping to be able to withdraw. If that class is hurting your GPA and it’s not going to help you in the future, I’d recommend you drop it.
Thanks a lot for the replies. I just found out that I can’t drop the class and I’d have to go through with it. I’ll just try to make the best of it.
