***AP Chemistry Forum: 2017-2018***

I guess this will be a topic to talk about the AP Chem test this year. I couldn’t find a current topic for AP Chem so I decided to make my own. Let’s all help each other succeed!

Hey! I’ll also be taking AP Chemistry this year. I know it will be a tough year, but we can all get through this! If any of you have good resources, please let me know!

I’m going to hop on this train, because next year is definitely going to be a rough one!

This is my post. I took AP Chem last year. You can read it for tips. Message me if you have any questions!

It’s already a really tough class! Let’s help each other get a 5!

As the first semester is coming to an end, where are your classes in the curriculum right now? Just wondering if I’m ahead or behind the majority

@Eingram24 We’re currently on solubility equilibrium.

We just finished bonding

My class finished everything that has to do with equilibrium and we are starting thermodynamics.

Can anyone further explain to me what molecular symmetry consists of? My AP Chem teacher told the class it was when two atoms pull in the opposite direction, thus canceling each other out, but I am still confused. Also I have been looking up videos, and some people say you can determine symmetry by looking at VESPR Theory and bond angles. I have been trying that method, but I find that there are some molecules that contradict that method.

Honestly, I feel like my ap chem teacher is making the class easier than it should be. We’ve only done two main labs and she does a crazy curve for the tests. 45% becomes an 80 and a 65% becomes a 90. I’ve been averaging a 65-70% each test but I don’t know if it’ll be good enough to get a 5 on ap chem. Her tests are AP Style but when I looked at previous AP FRQS, some are just hard as hell. Does anyone have any good comprehensive study material for all the units? Thnx

Anyone have good resources for titrations practice and buffers in general??

What are the best videos to review all of AP chem? Im looking at the khan academy buts really long. Are the bozeman videos alot better and are they the best?

@jsmith1 I haven’t watched Bozeman for chem but his bio vids are good. I think your best cahcne for chem is Khan Academy (you can adjust the speed–I usually watch at 1.5x speed since normal is too slow).

@jsmith1 If you prefer short videos that get straight to the point, I would highly recommend Brightstorm on Youtube. Other than that, I believe the Organic Chemistry Tutor also has great videos.

Does anyone know how to find which mixture produces an effective buffer solution?? All the answer choices have a specific volume and concentration of an (unknown) acid with volume and concentration of NaOH. How do you find which combination produces an effective buffer?

Are you sure the acid is completely unknown? I think the only way to figure out the volume and concentration of NaOH required is by knowing if the acid is strong or weak.

In order to produce an effective buffer, the acid and its conjugate base must be weak. Are you sure all the choices include NaOH? It is a strong base so I am not sure if a buffer is possible with NaOH.

@TylerJK @Rozenne Oh yeah there was a chart that showed one of the acids was weak. When I said unknown, I meant that it was Acid A, Acid B, and Acid C. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the help!!

Good luck to all for the test tomorrow!

Best of luck to everyone tomorrow! I am beginning to get the pre-AP jitters haha
