AP Chemistry or AP Physics C

Ok senior year is coming up pretty soon and I'm trying to decide between Ap Chem and Ap Physics C. The last time I took chem was in honors chem for freshmen year and I took AP Physics B in 10th grade (got a 5). I want to go into mechanical engineering at the moment (aspirations may change), so what class should i take? I know the prevalent view may be to take AP Physics C since I want to go into MechE, but I know many colleges require you to take Chem in freshmen year. I'm not to keen on going into college after only taking freshman year chemistry. On the other hand, AP Physics C paired along with AP Calc BC could prove very valuable for MechE. What are your thoughts? AP Physics C to prepare me more for potential future MechE or AP Chem to prepare myself for required chem courses in college? AP Physics B was a struggle for me, but obviously I must have had some skills if I pulled off a 5. What are your thoughts?

If you are concerned about college credit, check each university that you are considering to see which AP test gives you more useful credit (some accept one but not the other).

Physics C Mechanics will be most relevant to mechanical engineering, although mechanical engineering also deals with things like thermodynamics and fluid mechanics that are not covered in Physics C (though Chemistry touches on thermodynamics).

thanks. more responses please!!! don’t just view and not reply!

bump…

seriously can some ppl actually be useful and respond? it bugs me that 91 ppl viewed this and only one person responded. help someone out for once.

sen120r, I hope you understand that all of us are volunteers. This will happen again and again in life, so please be patient and remain calm. One reason why so many views but little responses is because of the attitude. Several of my posts never got answered, just for the record. Another suggestion is to break down your questions. One big chunk of paragraph is quite hard to read.

I would choose AP Chemistry because it is better for you to complete your physics education in college (especially you are ME). If you can take AP Calculus AB / BC, definitely go with either one.

no one was getting an attitude.

Physics B and C are both really easy… Like above, you should take Chem, so you
can get out of the required Chem I if you do well enough. And, take physics
at college.

Gee, seems another adult told you the same thing on your post in the hs forum. Get the Chem credit in hs because it is unlikely you will build on it. It’s more important to take your core classes in college.

Bumping your own thread every few hours won’t get you more responses. It will just irritate people. If people read and don’t respond it’s because they don’t have anything to add, or feel they don’t have expertise to offer an opinion. Respect that. It’s better than opinions from those that clearly don’t know what they’re talking about and would have been better off passing.

You didn’t even say thank you after my posting. You are showing an attitude. I normally don’t respond like this and I thought I should just let it go. But if you ever need help, please be patient. No hard feelings.

blueiguana added the last piece. Some long threads actually received many good answers because people actually knew the answers to the questions, so people were not ignoring your questions.

I am not sure if bots visiting a thread will +1 to the view count. It might. That’s another plausible reason.

I have seen far worst than this. I do programming and asking a technical question can be very difficult, and if no one can answer my question I will have to figure that out myself (or somewhere else again).

“seriously can some ppl actually be useful and respond? it bugs me that 91 ppl viewed this and only one person responded. help someone out for once.”

That, child, is an attitude!

I’d recommend AP Chem because, since you’ve already taken Physics B, you will probably learn a lot more that way. Physics C (and college physics) concepts are pretty much the same as Physics B concepts, except the problems are slightly more difficult/complicated. AP Chem is a really good class/exam, in my opinion.

Thank you EVERYONE. I was just waiting till more ppl replied to say thank you to everyone. Sorry.
