<p>To find potential you just add the standard reduction potential of each half reaction (except you change the sign of the reaction you decide is oxidation; in a galvanic cell, this will always be the LOWER number, though it can be either in electrolytic cells).</p>

<p>No, electrochemical cells can be either spontaneous(voltaic) or nonspantaneous(electrolytic). In that case, based on the reaction and the Ered values, I’m pretty sure it was a positive value.</p>
<p>i flipped the first one i think. you wanted the hydrogen on the left side (i think), so i flipped it so the hydrogen was on left side and it made a really nice equation that made water, I believe.</p>

<p>I think you’re confusing the term electrolytic and electrochemical. Electrochemical is a broad term. Galvanic cells ARE electrochemical cells. They create current and thus have positive potentials. </p>
<p>Electrolytic cells are NOT galvanic cells. They have negative potentials and require electricity in order for reactions to happen.</p>
