Actually, they are changing the AP Chem curriculum for next year. AP Bio was the one that changed this year… and I’m finding it hard because the new books aren’t all that great for it .
Anyway, do you guys think it is possible to simply study class material and get a 5 on the AP Chem test? I haven’t bought any books yet and am debating it because i’m already spending a looott of money on SAT stuff.

I don’t know if just studying class material will get you a 5, but taking all the past AP exams will definitely make the difference.

In my class, in the beginning of taking AP exams I was getting in the 3 range and now I’m on the verge of a 5. It makes a difference. But, getting a review wouldn’t hurt.

yeah, you’re right i suppose! Since the past exams are avaliable on the collegeboard site, that should be helpful, thanks! I actually started doing one of the past AP chem tests for the open ended section and it started out a joke but the last few were…complicated haha

For those of you who will be taking AP Chem next year, my son just took his AP exam and found the Barron’s and 5 Steps to a 5 to be VERY helpful. For him, he liked Barron’s for the practice tests because it does an item analysis so you can see what topic each question was testing. As a result, he knew exactly where to focus his studying/reviewing. Because he was getting short on time, he found the 5 Steps to a 5 to be the better “studying book” as he didn’t have time to go beyond what the AP exam was going to cover. He obviously doesn’t have his scores back yet, but feels like he did very well.
