Hey guys, just though I'd kill some time studying for the APs by asking a few question about the scoring of the AP Chem frq, because I believe it'll benefit all of us taking the exam tomorrow. So anyway:

1) Are net ionic equations given 1 point simply for balancing any equation we write down, even a wrong equation? This is what my teacher informed me.

2) If I wrote 18.75 when the correct answers in sig figs is 19, will I get marked down? And if so, will they continually mark me down for every step in a problem, like if i put 29.65 for part 3 in the same problem when the answer is 30?

3) How pumped are you guys for the APs?( doesn't have to be Chemistry if you guys already took it or sumthin).

(;

1) Well, for the equation prediction FRQ’s, there are 3 combined points for correct reactants/products and one point for “correctly balancing the equation for both mass and charge.” I’m not sure if you will get that point if you receive none of the reactant/product points, though. You can look at the 2011 scoring guidelines (<a href=“Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board”>Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board) and draw your own conclusions.

2) I believe that you can be off by one significant figure, so writing 18.75 instead of 19 will get you marked down 1 point. However, I think that you only lose 1 “sig fig point” per question, so you will not be penalized multiple times for the same error in the same question.

3) Not in the least. :P

Thanks for the reply! I can hold off on the APs as well lol. Any more replies!
